Talent.

This staff has been on fire recruiting the last few years. Mick said on his radio show that the team two years ago that won the conference had 2 offensive options. Any of our top 8 would be the second best scoring option on that team

Talent is the biggest thing, particularly scoring talent.

Many of us have been saying this could be a really good offensive team, because some of their underlying numbers last year were actually pretty good (and last year's team had very little D1 experience). Last year UC was a good three point shooting team in conference play (they didn't shoot it well early in the season). They were also a very good 2 point shooting team all year (Cronin's best 2 point shooting team). The issue with last year's offense was turnovers, particularly the big men turnovers. This is something I felt could be corrected as Cronin's teams have rarely had turnover issues...it's generally been a strength of his teams.

I will caution, today a ton of the points came off of the defense getting turnovers and UC beating Robert Morris up and down the floor. Good teams won't let us transition like that. What I liked was in the first half when Robert Morris was doing better about getting back in transition UC did a great job picking their spots. They looked for the quick break at the rim, then quick secondary break for open jumpers and when that wasn't there they pulled it out and ran good offense. I thought they were too reckless at times against Western Carolina with their transition game.

UC has some really good outside shooters (Caupain, Cobb, KJ) and some really good post scorers (Ellis, Clark, Deberry)... they can attack you with anyone on the Court most the the time. They just have more offensive talent across the board than at any time in the Cronin era.

Troy and Jennifer combined for 18 assists and 2 turnovers. You'll take that from your point guards.

This.

I get the feeling that this team may be the best since the mid 90's... And those were special teams.

Best part is the scoring is coming without sacrificing defense.

Looking forward to UC facing some better programs to see where they're really at right now.

Thank God they didn't move to a 24-second clock like some were advocating. That would be unwatchable. Scoring would go through the roof with almost everyone pressing though.

I'm with ya. Part of the allure of the college game is that it's NOT the NBA.

I have to agree. He looked exceptional with the dish. Terry was exactly correct about his set up of the other players not just passing it around the perimeter.
