RE: UR
Punting on 4th down in that spot down two scores would have been surrender. Personally I was fine with going for it because a 50 yard FG isn't a gimme.

Our defense gave up 20 points to a team that scored the following this year:
21, 31, 42, 48, 27, 37, 59, 38, 25, 20, and our 20 points.

Our offensive effort was an "F" across the board except for maybe Caskin who played well and didn't drop a pass. The coaches didn't cause all of the penalties, drop the passes, or throw the interceptions.

Now, if you can show me that Jimmye didn't have them ready to play then I can agree with you, but game calling wasn't the problem it was execution.

Hoping for better. Very disappointed with the play of nearly everyone today except for Dorka. But, we won 8 games, 6 in a row and other than today and the 4th quarter against Delaware played very well this season.

I tend to think much of the game was lost up front. No pressure on their QB and dominated on the line. On offense, a lot of pressure from their front, multiple hits on Cluely and lots of 1 yard passes again. The only potential good thing is unlike the last 2 years we will have another game to play.

I think we lost the game because we were out coached (as we have been the past 4 years by UR). Hard to tell why Cluley had such a horrible game. Yes he was rushed & hit but he has been for most games. Interestingly enough he had plenty of time on several of the ints. He also threw at least 2 "ints" that the UR D just dropped.

UR has no players that are way better than ours. We just played very poorly in most aspects of the game. To me it comes back to coaching & being able to play aggressive D (Bob Shoop) rather than this bend D that gives opponent receivers 8-10 yds room to make catches and puts no pressure on the QB. And then to let the UR RB run for over 200 yds- stop one or the other. Then today the OL that was supposed to be a strength was horrible.

And don't think our next opponent will not notice our weaknesses. The next balanced team we meet will be the last of the season.

By the way we scored NO TDs :<(

I think the Richmond defense deserves some of credit for our sub-standard play. They put pressure on Cluley most of the day. Now you can put that on our line if you want, but these boys have played outstanding all season. They didn't forget how to open holes or protect the QB overnight. Richmond's game plan worked yesterday, on the defensive side. On offense they created match ups that favored their players on the perimiter.

Now, it's on film. There were weaknesses on the Richmond defensive side of the ball. If we're fortunate enough to get a second chance at them, we will exploit them. Richmond is a damn good team, we need our best game to beat them. Yesterday they didn't get our best, they will next time, I'm confident.

RE: UR
Nice post. Agree that saying we played poorly (which we did) does not do justice to the UR defensive game plan. They played the run well, and kept the pressure on Steve. If we get them again I would expect adjustments. They likely will have Seth Fisher back by then, and he has given us fits. I am thrilled to be back in the playoffs, and better offensive production is the reason. The defense has been solid, not great since the shutdown defense of 2013. The defense needs to step it up, need more pressure on QB's, and tighter coverage. Aside from the first round, teams will exploit any softness. We will as well seek out weaknesses.

Have to beat Duquesne first...then worry about UR again.

Already ordered and printed out tickets. They appear to be going fast.

Of course, few students on campus Thanksgiving weekend.

Bye the way, ESPN had remote from Kaplan on the selection show showing team and fans, then interview with Jimmye on site.

I saw the ESPN coverage and Jimmye and the players played it just right. Only 24 hours after a crushing defeat they were upbeat and celebrating the fact that the seniors get to experience the playoffs. Now the hard work begins.

I was disappointed that they laid an egg on Saturday, but they've arguably overachieved this season, and I have faith that they can bounce back strong.

Overachieved all season? What team that we've played is hands down better than us? Any game we've played this season we should have won handily or it would be close. It's not like we've beaten teams we should have and that we're now regressing to the mean...

RE: UR
Finally got around to this. Avert your eyes.

Cluley, Standard Downs: 7-15, 72 yards, 2 INT, 5 1st Downs, 1 sack
Cluley, Passing Downs: 13-23, 143 yards, 1 INT, 5 1st Downs

Cluley followed up his best ever performance with possibly his worst ever performance. I feel confident in saying the offense will be better against Duquesne because I don't want to think about this offense misfiring worse.

Not to dwell on mistakes but he threw at least two more ints (right in the hands of the defenders-lucky for us they dropped them).

That was Cluley's int allotment for the rest of our games, including the play offs !
