KSU vs. YSU
Looking good early. Good enough that we played 11 guys in the first 10+ minutes. Ortiz very active. Up 10 with a few minutes to play in the first half.

Ortiz and Spicer look great. It's all a bit ragged like you'd expect, but really promising.

And Hall hasn't even gotten started !

RE: KSU vs. YSU
Thought Edwin looked good in his couple of minutes. Seems Sendy is just playing almost everyone (sans Hurley and Fleming) to give them a feel.

RE: KSU vs. YSU
Ortiz seems to be having a nice all around floor game. 6 boards and a block to go along with 9 points. Hall with 2 fouls.

Jimmy Hall is getting put in for 20 seconds, then gets pulled out? What's with that?

71 - 67 Kent State with about one minute left. Interesting box score.

Two thumbs up to anyone who can guess what this stat is...

12-21 (57%)

Nice win to start the season. Ortiz with a big night. It would seem, based on the stats that Kent's frontcourt dominated the paint.

RE: KSU vs. YSU
I like this team.

Lot's of depth.

Good attitude by all.

Good mix of upper & under class men.

KT is the glue. Don't underestimate his importance to the success of the season.

Fortunate to have this coaching staff, and how they know how to keep the continuity of the program going.

Front court has the potential to become more & more dominate.

Need to focus on making free throws and minimizing turnovers.

Onward & upward Flashes.

Never would have guessed Thomas and Pollard would be leading scorers.

Attendance was 5,471. Can anyone vouch for that?

RE: KSU vs. YSU
Impressed with how we looked tonight. I know it's way early, and we've seen big games from them before, but it really looks like Spicer and Ortiz have that Senior urgency. Spicer's head was around the rim on several of his rebounds and he looked to be catching everything clean. Really happy to have Thomas back too. He plays with a ton of heart. That up and under and one he had to seal the game was a thing of beauty. Liked what I saw from Pollard and Edwin as well. Pollard looks like he can really slash and score through contact. Not every team at our level has players like that. Edwin looks like a physical guard too. 5 rebounds in only 9 minutes is getting after it. I thought it was clear that we've got a good amount of talent on this roster and some really good athletes. With the 30 second shot clock we're going to see some bigger individual numbers this year.

And if anyone thinks we looked kind of sloppy being the first game, I stayed for the first half of the Akron CSU game and had to leave. It was one of the most sloppy boring halves of basketball I've ever watched.

Seems a little high but that's probably counting total ticket sales so the second wave of fans that showed up for the Akron CSU game are counted in that.

RE: KSU vs. YSU
My take on tonight's game:

Overall I thought everyone who hit the floor was at least good.
Edwin to me was very impressive.
I would have liked to see more of Jones.
The cross court pass to Jones/dunk was my highlight of the evening.
Spicer looked like he was really ready to get to the next level of play this year.
We played just good enough to win.
Youngstown had a very good second half, especially their three point shooting which kept them in the game. I wouldn't call them a pushover.
I thought we looked much better than Akorn and CSU. It's going to be a long season for Gary Waters....

On to Southern Illinois!

Coach was playing "offense /Defense" with Jimmy to get his scoring when
we had the ball and to get him out when YSU had the ball to avoid having Jimmy pick up a 3rd foul.

Attendance seems high but still more than football. AND with no marketing from the AD. Too bad the Department can't see where they have potential to increase revenue

RE: KSU vs. YSU
Very Gritty team with a ton of athletes. Perimeter D could use some work but that will come.

My only concern is lack of consistent outside shooter teams are going to pack it in and beg us to shoot. This may have huge impact on Hall's ability to get loose down low and get his opportunities. I think they may be already adjusting to this as Hall got the ball at the elbow a lot more than I ever remembered last year.
