RE: KSU vs. YSU
Frontcourt production is something I will be watching closely as this season develops. It has been a long time since the Flashes have featured such a promising interior group.

34 points and 34 rebounds from the three frontcourt starters is impressive. Obviously Chris Ortiz had a monster game on the glass but if he, Hall and Spicer can get close to those numbers on a consistent basis, Kent State should be able to (at least) hang with and (why not) beat just about every opponent on their schedule.

Neither Davis nor Jones played double digit minutes last night. Did anyone in attendance get a feel for:

*What Jones brings to the table?
*How does Davis look physically compared to a season ago?

RE: KSU vs. YSU
The large number of rebounds we had was also surprising because YSU had a couple of big guys in the middle - Bobby Hain, who had 20 points, is 6'10" 240 and Jorden Kaufman at 7'0" 250.

Raasean Davis still looks to me like he's not quite ready yet - like he's not solid enough yet to play underneath. Marvin Jones looks like he has more floor presence, athletic, but maybe not strong enough to hold down the center position.

Pollard looks like he's a scorer. There were times he had the ball and you could see he was going to take a shot, but unlike some guys like that (Goodson for example), he made the shots he forced up

And Kellon Thomas, he got fouled a lot in the last couple of minutes, and did a great job at the line (looking at the box score now, I see he was 5 for 10 at the line for the game, but 5 for 7 in the last minute). Between Thomas, Pollard, Cancer, Edwin, and Avery - I don't think we need to worry about replacing Manley, Brewer, and Jackson.

Jimmy Hall had a hard time getting his 10 points, going 4 for 16 from the field.

Avery looked like he belonged out there, Walker had some good plays, Edwin also looked like he belonged there. Walker took 3 shots, all 3s.

On the sideline, the two redshirts (Ridenour and Alonzo Walker)and were there in blue warmups; before the game another guy was out there in grey warmups, and he sat behind the bench during the game- I'm hoping this was Devon Andrews, that he's still involved with the team even though he's not yet on the roster

Seems a little high but that's probably counting total ticket sales so the second wave of fans that showed up for the Akron CSU game are counted in that.

I would say the MACC was no more than half full at any time. We had good KSU student support and the pep band was great. Second game was poorly attended - fair number of Akron fans very few from CSU or YSU. The Hiram team was there scouting Akron!! My wife and I tried to get tickets thru the Coaches vs Cancer website - couldn't get link to work to buy tickets or donate - the phone number listed also didn't work - so that was useless!

Both we and Akron have work to do and foul shooting was not great except for Pollard. CSU had a more than 10:00 minute drought (stuck on 6 pts) - I give them credit as they hustled the whole game - as promised Waters did press most of the game but only half-heartedly.

i guess different eyes see different things. At the end of the Kent game, we were discussing the crowd with several long time fans and we settled on 4800 as a good guess on attendance. The upper sections were pretty full except for the corners. Behind the backboards were filled with students and the band. The lower bowl on the team bench side was full, in fact we were sitting very tightly. Unfortunately, the chair back sections were only half full and I call them the cadavers section. With a capacity of over 6000, 4800 appeared to be a good guess.

And CO was not one of Hustlebelt's top 25. Something can't be right.

RE: KSU vs. YSU
I'm hopeful that Ortiz keeps producing like that. In my mind, any senior that's played at Kent State for four seasons should expect to get on one of the MAC lists. If you've been here 4 years, you should at least produce enough to make Honorable Mention. Brewer, Manley, Greene, Rod Sherman, Holt, etc, they all did at least that much. Henniger missed it. I think Ortiz, and Spicer for that matter, need to get the scoring up if they're going to get there.
