and this is the point people fail to realize. ASN is better than the alternative of the game not being on air

Although I did not enjoy the outcome, the ASN broadcast of the Charlotte-ECU basketball game was pretty good. Paul Hewitt did an excellent job on color and though I don't know who the Play by Play guy was, he had good energy too.

The only downside is that the local channel put it on their OTA digital channel only.

People keep saying this but when you can't get any of the games on your local channels and they don't stream, it's pretty much like they are not on the air. Hopefully, they can get their streaming going eventually but I'll believe it when I see it. They couldn't even get the audio on the Southern Miss-Rice broadcast correct until midway through the 2nd quarter.

ASN coverage is basically CSS. Some people get it and enjoy it. Others can't get it or complain because of the announcers, graphics, or non-HD feed. It is what it is but feel free to keep writing them. It won't help but maybe it will make you feel better.

Coming from FCS that is a plus; but I agree that it is a bush league network as makes CUSA look small time. I understand they have an agreement with ESPN, so maybe that will result in an influx of cash to upgrade their broadcasts.

I wouldn't count on that. ESPN is doing everything possible to find content for ESPN3 right now, to the point that we're seeing a lot of obscure events pop up in their lists of late. Saturday they had the World Hearthstone Tournament semifinals on there...I didn't even know what Hearthstone was until I clicked it out of curiosity.

Isn't there a rumor out there that ESPN3 would bid for our online rights and let Fox or CBS get the rest? Not trying to start anything but I could of sworn I heard something like that.

The only rumor we've seen is FOX for Tier 1, ESPN gets everything else. ASN would then sub-license games from ESPN for TV; ASN feed would be shown on ESPN3. I think that's about best we can hope for.

I would sign up for that right now.

RE: ASN is absolute garbage.
When CUSA first started football was carried by Fox Sports. One year UAB had one game on tv. Last season UAB with ASN UAB had 10 or 11. ASN may suck but suck is a hell of a lot better than nothing.

Same here. I despise ESPiN worse than anybody but their ESPN3 stuff is pretty good.

OMG they don't broadcast in HD! Wahhhh, sniffle.

I'm still totally confused by this one... I know on the Dish network, I had a chance to watch every C-USA game that I watched in HD (if they can call it HD), because I thought the audio issue was related to the HD broadcast of the USM-Rice game... so i flipped it back over to SD to see if it was caught up.

As for the basketball not getting broadcast... we've had 1 scrimmage game for most teams and one game for most everyone. C-USA wont' really get much until some big games appear on the schedule, or until conference play begins. There are just too many conferences in basketball for that to change.

I didn't miss a one on Direct TV either.

Same here. I like the availability on Directv but I understand the angst of those that don't have that or Dish.

RE: ASN is absolute garbage.
This isn't related immediately, but ...

Ring of Honor Wrestling is moving from Destination America to something called Comet TV, a sci-fi digital broadcast channel that launched a couple of weeks ago and is owned by MGM and ... the Sinclair Television Group. The Wikipedia page says it might be used by affiliates to broadcast ASN games, and while it has a citation needed notation next to it, it'd be a logical move. My question is, does Sinclair then try to create a digital broadcast ASN down the line?

Apparently ASN won't be broadcasting the Rice/UTSA game in Houston...
