High Majors should be on notice. 6'6 Deshawn Corprew tells me he has decommitted from Arkansas Little Rock.

This is from the Twitter of-

@JamieShaw5
Partner at @Phenom_Hoops / NCAA Certified National Recruiting Service / Exposure Camps. Elite AAU Series. HS Showcases. / Competition. Exposure. Scholarships.

For a few days there I believed we had an NCAA bid locked up for next season. Still great that Coach Beard was able to get a verbal from a kid this highly ranked.

As I said, we don't get those kids when the big boys want them. BTW, we will have the pleasure of watching Ron Baker at Wichita State for one more year. Woo-hoo!

Baker is first team All-American. That was truly "one that got away". I guess someone on our former coaching staff had a good eye for talent.

I'm sure we've gotten kids that originally committed to some other program. It's just the way things work. A verbal commitment isn't worth the paper it's written on.04-cheers

As long as he hasn't signed with anyone else, we still have a chance.
He could change his mind back and still sign with us. He could probably thrive in our program, but young people can be swayed by promises by well known programs, and sometimes things don't turn out the way they think they will. Maybe he'll go somewhere, be somewhat disillusioned and end up here for his last few seasons. Always a possibility.04-cheers

He's gone. The thought of having a Top 100 player, right here in Little Rock, was nice while it lasted. Just when Baker graduates, we have the "fun" of another 4 years of hearing about "one that got away" excelling for a top national program. That's why I'm better off knowing nothing about who we are recruiting. But, when a kid verbally commits it's hard not to know and be excited about it.

I wish the NCAA would do away with commitments. They aren't binding, so what good are they? I'd say no commitments.
Just signings.

Since it's been more than 55 years since I dated anyone other than my wife, I can't recall any particulars. Guess it's just as well.

That's devastating to hear. Was really excited about him coming to Little Rock.

The NCAA has nothing to do with verbal commitments.

Competing with Southern University, Wofford, Campbell & Stetson seems more reasonable. Corprew had offers from 3 ACC schools, Texas, etc. Just seemed too good to be true.

Hey, look on the bright side. Even getting a verbal from a kid like that is a step up.

It's definitely a step up. With regard to making verbal commitments "illegal", its obviously the schools that "push" kids to make them. They hope that once a 17 year old kid makes a public "pledge" he'll be reluctant to publicly recant. Sometimes it works. This time it didn't. Actually, it probably works more often then not. This time the kid just had to much pressure from big time schools, "friends", etc. Folks on Twitter indicate that he is now the best unsigned player "available".
