Lady Bucs over Asheville at Brooks 74-68
UNC Asheville women have been picked to finish 8th of 11 in the Big South. That’s the same as they finished last year (9-22, 7-13).

This is a big step up from Milligan. And preparation for the next step versus Wake Forest.

I’ll especially be looking to see how the new front court players do: Shomari Kendrick, Sadasia Tipps and Yamile Rodriguez. Also 5’11” freshman sharpshooter Carley Lytton.

6’4” Rodriguez, 6’2” Kendrick and 6’1” Tipps have size over last year’s crew of 6’2 Clark, 5’11 Mitchell and 5’10” Bond. But less athleticism, scoring and ball skills. They'll have to learn to play with the smothering defense that the Lady Bucs front court developed last year.

If Lytton (10 points in 14 minutes vs Milligan on 2-3 from 3) can hit her shot against D1 competition, she could be a real difference maker, giving the Lady Bucs another strong shooter, and making it harder to collapse on the bigs underneath. She looks like the kind of player that FGCU used to kill us with: 5’10” or so, can put the ball on the floor, take you out to the perimeter and burn you with the 3.

UNC-A gave us a hard run tonight. They played well against us but the Lady Bucs pulled in out in the fourth quarter. They are now playing four 10 minute quarters instead of two halves. Tiana was hurt very near the end of the game and was helped off the court. I have not heard a status report but I sure hope she is ok and good to go. That was one of those game we could have lost but pulled it out. It will be interesting to see how the team develops as the season progresses.

This doesn't look so bad when you see UCLA, Wisconsin and UGA men going down, and UT struggling with the UNC-Asheville men 82-78.

Chandler and Yamile both really shined in the game. Not saying that Shamauria and Tianna and the others did anything wrong, but Chandler especially had one of those games. Highly impressed with this team and their passion. I'm also starting to see some signs of how well these ladies are going to play together come conference play.

Has anyone got an update on the status of Tianna Tarter? I heard yesterday she sustained a concussion and was getting her memory back. Must have been a pretty hard foul or fall to cause all this. Hope she is back soon, enjoy watching her play.

I haven't heard yet how she is either, but we were there for the game and saw the hit.

It was a flagrant foul in the last 20 seconds of the game. Tianna went down hard and nearly did a backwards roll on the floor after she landed. The refs didn't see she was down and I thought Coach Ezell's was going to blow her top when the refs were trying to keep her off the floor to check on Tianna. From our view in the stands, we were most concerned about her neck honestly. I hope she makes a speedy recovery.
