UAB losing football coach soon?
Wow, Blazers. Looking at your recruiting news. How attractive is your guy going to be to the big dogs looking for someone who can weather a storm and recruit? Take that as a high compliment, but I would imagine some conversations about before he possibly coaches the next real game in UAB history.

Gonna make one heckuva movie in a few years.

I think he gets some kind of teacher's retirement deal from the state if he stays in the state of Alabama for a couple more years, so I'd imagine he'll stay for a little while longer.... Someone who knows more about that situation can explain it further.

Just great for once to have a coach that somebody else may want. Its our job to make him want to stay.

I think He's going to stick around till he gets enough years in to draw that Alabama state pension. What is that 2 years?. So basically about the time UAB start back to playing football. Then the first job offer that comes along....

bye

If you think about what all the players that left UAB and playing for other schools and how good they are doing. It makes you wonder how UAB went 6-6 last year and not 8-4 or better.

this new athletics foundation might find a way to get up that $$$, he loves Birmingham has been here for more than 30+ years. He is the best thing to ever happen to UAB football so our heavy hitter will dish out that $$ to keep him

He won't leave until a big SEC program goes after him. They are going to want at least two years of winning before they g after hm. I think he's gone after the 2018 season and by then we should be on solid ground as a program.

He'll be around for a few yrs still for teachers retirement & based on how successful he is (remember while the BOT says publically they support UAB their overall actions still mostly say SSDD RTR)& if he's still winning 8+ games a lesser SEC/ACC team might take a run on him if no other big names are out there but don't see him going very far from the SE US.

Happy wife, happy life. I imagine if he weathered this nightmare he ie not going anywhere. He is from the area and was seemingly born to HC at this school. I dont see him as some job hopping guy who will leave for another job unless its a top 25 job.

If UAB goes at least 6-6 their first two years back after resurrection, then I think we can revisit this thread with reasonable anxiety. Its cart before the horse right now

It would poetically fitting for him to retire a Blazer.....one of the better 'good guy vs bad guy' stories I've seen in my lifetime....if you guys can win a ccg by 2022 it might become the best....

Not a problem. We're going to go 0-24 over those two years, remember?

But wouldn't this be a catch 22? and I know to the fans that's better than it is now but I don't see any way this turns out good for UAB. You are basically starting over and with that most likely take 12 beatings the first year and probably 10 to 12 the next few years. With that fan support will be next to nothing, most likely. Everyone says no matter what we will support the program but reality sets in and those fans start finding other things to do on a Saturday afternoon that watch UAB get their heads kicked in.

I'm not saying this will happen, but Gene Bartow was the coach at Kentucky for 12 hours until his wife told him otherwise.

This is very true. It's why so many of the top FCS teams hang with/lead Power 5 teams until the 4th quarter- then fade. Starting talent is there, but a sheer lack of bodies kills them.

With that said, I don't see this being an issue for very long for UAB. I think they've got enough already built there to be able to come back rather quickly in the overall scheme of things.

I would love to see him stay and be at midfield when they rename the on campus stadium after he retires. I could see this as a situation where legacy and doing the right thing is more important to him than money. He seems like that kind of guy and I have much respect for him at this point.

It might be wishful thinking but I'm inclined to agree.

Coaches have egos, and Clark is no exception. Where can he go that doesn't already have a stadium named after somebody else?

After what southern miss did to Jeff bower no coach should count on loyalty from the schoo they work for. Clark will leave when a top half SEC offed and it will be the right move

Not many coaches can play the "if it wasn't for me, you wouldn't even have a football team" card. I know the fans and boosters were huge, but really think his passion, and sticking around to see it through, went a long way. He is a good coach and the only way he would ever lose his job is if he raised expectations to a place they never were before. If he does that, then there's no reason to get rid of him because he got you there.
