Bruce Pearl and rules don't mix very well.

If the story is true, it's kind of nitpicky reason, but rules are rules.

Nitpicky? It's an NCAA rule. You, as a player at a school like auburn are made well aware of those rules. Don't break them and you won't be sitting. There is a reason the rule is in place, and if you do nothing to him then where do you draw the line?

It is a rule violation, and the punishment is severe, probably because of Pearl's history. I agree with Pearl that it is harsh and severe, but he made that bed. I'm sure it is a rule that is violated all the time. Auburn self reported it because they know the NCAA is watching Pearl like a hawk.
