There are tons of things that skip Birmingham because the arena is small. NCAA Tournament won't play here anymore, lots of conferences and conventions, concerts, etc. It doesn't have to be used for just sports

Is Smith semi-retired and picking rebuilding UAB athletics as his new hobby? He sounds like the de facto AD.

That's more or less what it is. He wants what's best for Birminham and understands the importance of UAB. And he is semi retired and this crusade gives him something worthwhile to do

Thursday night games lose the kids that are in school and parents are not going to bring them out to a 7pm game and due to that you lose the parents attending. So maybe one Thursday night game but need to try and keep them on Sat.

Except for one ill-fated stormy Wednesday all are week night games have been attended pretty dang good. Even the Friday night game that saw over 30,000.
