Now It's Cheerleaders Told to Pipe Down
Just saw the clip from the Toledo game where the ref told the Central Michigan cheerleaders to be quiet while the ball is being snapped. Yes, the same ref who told our PA guy to keep it quiet. I know he's a local guy (Rockford) and does a solid job, but even the announcers were on him about telling the cheerleaders not to do their job.

When the stadium is deafening at say Ohio State, you now the Buckeye cheerleaders are part of those decibels. How can they ask a group to be quiet, so confused?

Maybe he should stick to doing high school games if he doesn't want it loud.

That entire crew was aweful with many blown calls but especially that int by Toledo which was waved off then not reviewed. The head ref seemed like he was drunk or really annoyed that he was there.

The only time I have ever yelled at cheerleaders is when they were not jumping high enough. 04-cheers

Saw that guy last night & I know we've had him & his crew before. I can't remember the specifics but I don't associate seeing him and being happy.

Lot of flags last night....Against both teams.

Assuming they only work 1 game a week, we should not see his crabby face tonight.

The Ref was Tony Canella. He usually does a good job. I'd be crabby too if I had to drive to Mt. Pleasant. Hate that drive!

I was at the game at Huskie Stadium where the ref told the stadium to stop playing music between plays. Did anyone ever find out more information on what happened and is NIU going to play music at the WMU game?

The ref is f'cking nuts. That's all I can say. He must have been turned down by a cheerleader when he went to college (IF he even went).

I saw a comment somewhere that the cheerleaders were mimicking the snap count with the megaphone. Even then it's still f'd up. I think that he just likes making a fool of himself. 03-old

RE: Now It's Cheerleaders Told to Pipe Down
The head ref - Tony Canella - was at the women's football 101 clinic I went to 3 years ago. He gave a presentation on some of the ref hand signals & showed examples of the penalties themselves. He was a pretty nice guy actually. He even laughed when I made a joke/comment regarding Big10 refs.

Not sure what the deal is with the noise problems & snap count. 01-wingedeagle

He didn't say to stop between plays. He said, and its the rule, that when the ball is signaled ready for play the PA can't be making artificial noise. No clue on the cheerleader thing yesterday though.
