Very classy, indeed! Clearly, a man who has his priorities in order.
Congrats, to the Blazers.

I can't think of a time in which I have ever stood and applauded an opposing head coach. I will do so on Jan. 14.

What a stand up guy! Proud to have him in our conference.

I surmise the players will do anything he asks now. UAB has a terrific coach, IMO.

So what happens if this coach gets a better job offer and leaves? Will the new coach be obligated to do the same.

Supposedly it's a one year thing and the full cost of attendance will be in the budget next year.

Our first game is Friday. I doubt he gets a better job before then.

That makes sense. A great gesture on his part.

I was referring to future years, but evidently it is a one year deal.

To the CPA's on the board, just curious would this be a tax deduction for the coach? If it isn't, it should be.

Since it is a donation and the university will allocate the funds it should be no different to all the millions I donate...... "cuts eyes to see who is looking" Where is the blue font?

Hhmm, interesting question.

I would think that this would be funneled through the athletic dept. so as not to go awry of NCAA rules. The best thing to do and what is likely is that this isn't income to him at all even though he's contractually entitled to it, he's not gong to receive it and therefore not taxable. This would be preferable to reporting it and then taking a deduction due to limitations on itemized deductions and the 2% floor on unreimbursed business expenses.

It was treated as a donation and the school earmarked it. Same as Clark's.

Well then it's deductible as a charitable deduction as you said.

Yup, he can deduct up to 50% of his income in charitable donations. Much less than 50%, therefore all good.
