Wow.

On the other hand, are other schools having this problem, or are we special?

That is awesome. Thankfully he'll only have to do that one time.

It's great that Haase did this, but it's absolutely despicable that the UAB administration even allowed this to happen.

The article mentions that the budget had already been approved for this coming year therefore the student cost thing wasn't included.

One would expect it to be included in future budgets.

Most budgets are flexible enough to handle unexpected expenses. UAB's budget used to be set up in this way as well rather than the budget being the law and cannot be deviated from. My guess is that this is a BOT dictate and instead of going to the BOT to request deviation from the budget, Haase stepped up to handle it himself.

I'm sure other colleges had their budgets already set up when the Cost of Attendance passed. They simply made adjustments to the budget to handle the costs. UAB doesn't have that luxury thanks to the BOT.

I really can't believe Ingram said it was because the budget was already set with a straight face. Embarrassing, and maddening.

Thanks to Coach Haase for taking the high road. More I could say, but probably should just keep my mouth shut.

Sometimes I wonder if UAB really looks appealing to coaches looking for a career. There is always someone that will take a job, but it doesn't mean you want to take anyone who will take any job. From reading news articles and post here and there this administration and our BOT seem so maddening.

Between Clark, Haase, Townsend and other coaches, we are blessed and lucky to have them here.

I believe it is probably the truth. The BOT is not allowing any deviation from the set budget.

Getting this story released today is a PR home run. It's worth every penny of the 46k he donated.

Haase got a roughly $500k raise this year. I'm sure he was okay with writing that check for the program. The last thing he needs is his guys telling future recruits that they didn't get their coa money.

We have banners hanging in the rafters spanning decades. A lot of schools can't say that. Despite some o the shenanigans that go on here, this is far from the worst place to stop at during your career.

It makes me think they will require boosters to cover cost of attendance moving forward and that they have baked that into the donut hole. Also, Conference USA was providing gap money.... was UAB not allowed to accept it for dropping football?

http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/col.../30428777/

Conference USA was going to give each member $450,000 over a 3-year-period starting this fall. http://www.dentonrc.com/sports/sports-he...ipends.ece

So C-USA was going to provide 150,000 per year and the NCAA 55,000. That 205,000 covered (assuming UAB was getting a full share from C-USA which I doubt)

In addition Watts used cost of attendance (as shown in leaked documents) as one of the reasons to kill football yet they could not work cost of attendance for basketball in the budget?
