RE: Positive and Negative: UC Football Season
Negative - football IQ of this team, players and coaches. Stupid penalties, turnovers, and mistakes have cost this team dearly this season. As bad as it's been in the 3 conference loses, another negative is the offense choked away the chance to win those games - 2 int and a lost set of downs. It kills me to think, as much of a liability the defense is at times, they gave the offense the chance to win those games and they couldn't capitalize.
Positive - young defense seems to be improving, and adjustments by the defensive staff have been much better than the past couple of years. Clink's done a pretty good coaching job considering what he had and the amount of injuries he had to contend with. Halftime adjustments have been stellar this year, something that has been a nice surprise.
Summary - disappointed, but really, if you didn't have reservations about the defense at the start of the year - noone knew what this season was going to be like. I figured 9-3, loses to UM, BYU, and a conference game. Looking back, UC was in position to win 3 of the loses, the offense just didn't get the job done. Looking forward, finish out the season with wins, a bowl win, 9-4 is still a solid season and something to build for next year. So many have been spoiled with success, they often don't remember or were not there during the 2-8, 1-9, 3-8 years. Be grateful for what you have - I for one would rather be in the position UC currently has than say some of the other programs in the league and across the country. Yes I want UC to win just as much as everyone else, sometimes it just doesn't happen.
Side Note - the league has to do something about the officiating, this season has been truly horrific. So many errors, bad calls, no calls, suspect homorism - and sadly it's not just against UC, it's been bad in every game for every team. It's time to start holding the zebras accountable.
