Positive and Negative: UC Football Season
Just curious Bearcat Nation, what is one negative and one positive with regard to the football season thus far without stating the obvious (ad nauseam). One negative for me is the production of Silverberry Mouhon (1.5 sacks). In addition to sacks, his total tackles are trending to be the worst of his career other than his frosh year. One positive is the continued improvement of Deyshawn Bond and the O line play overall as a unit. A plus is Bond has stayed healthy this year and I love that the kid will be around for one more year. Nice to have that stability and talent in the middle.

Positive: It's already basketball season.

Negative: I believe we are on the cusp of another realignment shift, Hopefully the big stinky rotten egg we laid this year will not have any bearing on where UC ends up.

Positive and Negative: UC Football Season
Negative: Weekend at Bernie's 4 is proving to be the worst of the film series.

Positive: Tubs shot the best round of his life this year.
But I'd say Hayden getting some good experience early in his career. Shaq hopefully increasing draft potential.

At this point there is nothing positive. Moral victories are loses.

positive: playing and (hopefully) developing some of the young guys.

negative: apparent tone (or lack thereof) from the coaching staff, resulting in the cats looking like a three ring circus on the field

even with nippert, I really don't notice a big difference. you can put lipstick on a pig, and its still a pig. the concourse above the bowl is still a cluster - everyone seems to just hang out back there - still as hard to move around as before. the ushers don't seem to do anything to keep it moving. the portable, single wide porta a porty truck, in TUC's loading dock area, is a joke. maybe it'll be a double wide next year! as far as making it "better" for the average fan, I just don't see it. although, honestly, we all know it was more about getting the suites / money seats out there.

What a great kid and a great achievement for this season. What a career he's had. Definitely will miss Mr. Hands Reliable/Precision Route Runner/Wes Welker, Jr.

RE: Positive and Negative: UC Football Season
Positive: Offensive line has been tremendous. Runners do not average the ypg and passers do not throw for 500. Next year when we are missing these guys our difficulties will be due to youth in this unit.

Gunner is a strong positive. He throws it where he has to. I know too many redzone ints. the better question is why so many redzone passes. Note to staff. Steady dose of Mike Boone in the redzone.

Defense has slowly improved over the course of the year and is light years ahead of last years group who could not tackle. I see that tt has recruited lots of talent on that side of the ball. He deserves credit for this. No one has spoken about Thomas, but he is a very good cornerback. Gilbert looks to be a hitter.

The negatives: Coaching. It is apparent to me that the current head coach is coasting. Allow runningbacks to substitute themselves. Does not happen anywhere in the world except here. The onside kick gaffe, the penalties, turnovers, preparation. When Tubbs in his Tuesday interview before BYU stated that the altitude is not high enough to be a factor. The quote was it is not like a mile high. I have done enough mountain biking in Utah to know that altitude is most certainly a factor. The whole attitude is nonchalant and encourages sloppiness. We will never be a great team under tt. We will not recruit superior talent to p5 and some g5 and we will not out execute the others. We will continue to dominate lower to midtier g5 teams.

RE: Positive and Negative: UC Football Season
Positives:
1. Defense has clearly improved as the season has gone on and it's an incredibly young 2 deep. That's encouraging for the next couple of years, but they still will need to take a big step forward.
2. The offense has been one of the best in the country at moving the ball. That tells me the talent level is high and the overall system is pretty solid.
3. Kiel is an absolute stud 90% of the time and Moore has shown he can be a big time QB for UC his JR and SR years.
4. Gantz is a big time kicker, Lloyd has taken a huge step forward as a punter despite the awful dropped punt last week.

Negatives:
1. Way too many turnovers and mental errors... as good as we are offensively we leave a lot of points off the board.
2. Redzone playcalling hasn't played to this team's strengths and once again this prevents UC from scoring as they should.
3. The management of the running backs has been atrocious. Mike Boone should be getting 15 carries a game. He's averaging nearly 10 yards per carry. He's an absolute stud. Instead we put him in on obvious passing downs and use him to passblock and also have him trying to return kicks. Hand him the ball..he's been money in the bank.
4. The coaching staff gave up at BYU...that's inexcusable
5. UC's 5-4 and really at the very least should be 7-2.

RE: Positive and Negative: UC Football Season
Negative - football IQ of this team, players and coaches. Stupid penalties, turnovers, and mistakes have cost this team dearly this season. As bad as it's been in the 3 conference loses, another negative is the offense choked away the chance to win those games - 2 int and a lost set of downs. It kills me to think, as much of a liability the defense is at times, they gave the offense the chance to win those games and they couldn't capitalize.

Positive - young defense seems to be improving, and adjustments by the defensive staff have been much better than the past couple of years. Clink's done a pretty good coaching job considering what he had and the amount of injuries he had to contend with. Halftime adjustments have been stellar this year, something that has been a nice surprise.

Summary - disappointed, but really, if you didn't have reservations about the defense at the start of the year - noone knew what this season was going to be like. I figured 9-3, loses to UM, BYU, and a conference game. Looking back, UC was in position to win 3 of the loses, the offense just didn't get the job done. Looking forward, finish out the season with wins, a bowl win, 9-4 is still a solid season and something to build for next year. So many have been spoiled with success, they often don't remember or were not there during the 2-8, 1-9, 3-8 years. Be grateful for what you have - I for one would rather be in the position UC currently has than say some of the other programs in the league and across the country. Yes I want UC to win just as much as everyone else, sometimes it just doesn't happen.

Side Note - the league has to do something about the officiating, this season has been truly horrific. So many errors, bad calls, no calls, suspect homorism - and sadly it's not just against UC, it's been bad in every game for every team. It's time to start holding the zebras accountable.
