Mizzou president is out ...
Wow ... what strikes me about all of this is how the student orgs have been trying get changes made at the school with no avail. Within hours of the football team joining the protest, the president is out.

This shows me the amount of power that the players have. They don't get big salaries but at a school such as Mizzou, they generate hundreds of millions in revenue.

So not only can a lousy coach be fired but so can a lousy college president. There should be no tolerance of racist behavior at a modern university in this day and age.

The team is 4-5 and suckish this year.

Had the team been 8-0 or 7-1 and staring at a playoff spot, let's see if the team and coaches would have the balls to pull this off.

If they failed to show for the BYU game, they would have had to pay BYU a $1 million buyout penalty.

LOL. If they were 8-0, the Prez would have been out the moment they even threatened to strike.

A cancelled or forfeited FB game would cost the athletic department and surrounding community TONS of money.

The Missouri president knew he had screwed up, he did the proper thing and resigned.

I am a pretty liberal person, but a lot of this bothers me. I don't know if it does more harm then good. If anything I think it is more about how difficult it is to be a college president in this environment. Should he have done more or realized how sensitive his clientele was in this area, yes, but drunken idiots using the N word and a swastika, every president in the SEC would have lost their jobs years ago. There are 35k students, of course there will be idiots.

Absolutely. Even more leverage in that case as a forfeit ruins CFP chances AND costs the school a million dollars. 4-5 just costs the schools a million dollars.

FIFY for you.

An incident like that occurred at my college in the "enlightened" North. Idiots, like the wind, blow everywhere.

Mizzou president is out ...
What I am trying to figure out is what the president should have done that he didn't do. Maybe I don't know enough about the situation. But it seems to me like there were three or four incidents of racism by random Mizzou community members that haven't even been named (are they known? If so they should be expelled. If not, what can you do?) and the students immediately asked for his resignation. Had they tried to have a meaningful conversation, I'm sure he would have engaged more than he did and they could have worked toward a solution to curb racism at Mizzou.

But perhaps I am missing something. I am admittedly not an expert on this subject.

The coach was afraid of the negative recruiting that's still going to take place against Mizzou with potential black athletes

I wonder whose idea this was at Mizzou?

Yes, it's real, but has since been taken down.

Expect even more in the future. I expect the confederate flag to eventually disappear from the SEC scene. Blacks see it in a similar fashion as Jews see the Nazi flag. I can see security going around various tailgates and demanding that the flags come down.
Hey, we are in a new age where old bigoted ways are not being tolerated. I also think that we will soon see a new more progressive south. It may no longer be the Dixie of old.

No you got it.

Insane that this has gone this far.

It was just two years ago that Missouri had an openly gay black football player named Michael Sam.

Strange that there was no mention by Sam or anyone else back then of a lack of tolerance. He officially came out to his teammates and friends in August of 2013 before his Senior season began.

The question is would Mizzou be doing this if they were 9-0? I don't think so, but that's the cynical part of me. I don't know what they expect the president to do because some drunken idiots drew a swastika.

They don't even know who did it. It was just in a dorm bathroom.

Anyone could have done it to enflame the situation more.

Google exists people. This is way bigger than racism. He had the faculty mad at him for cutting back. He had women and the UM Hospital mad at him for cutting relations with Planned Parenthood. He had African-American students mad at him for not doing enough about growing racism on campus. He had graduate students mad at him for cutting healthcare coverage for graduate students if you were a U.S. citizen but foreign students could keep it. Not sure what is going on up in Columbia but this is a lot bigger than what is being lazily reported.

RE: Mizzou president is out ...
Funny but your list of grievances aren't mentioned by the alleged agrieved.

College is about preparing young people for life. If Mizzou really cared about these athletes it would have revoked their scholarships immediately. That's the way it works in the real world.

Then, if you really have an actionable claim, you get an attorney. If not then grow up.
