Missouri's governing board installed an outsider president to help corporatize the university. Having no higher ed experience, he apparently did not realize that the mewlings of affronted undergrads may well be silly and stupid, but they take themselves very seriously and social media has made that entitlement enormously self-reinforcing.

Therefore, instead of setting up some meaningless panels to let them vent, and very loudly putting his campus police on the lookout for drunk guys shouting racial slurs, he ignored them because they are stupid and silly. And it cost him his job, as it should have - if you don't understand an organization, including and especially its stupid parts, you have no business leading it. As these silly and stupid people pour enormous quantities of cash (usually indirectly via their parents or by signing up for a lifetime of indentured servitude to student loan servicers, or both) into the university, ignoring them is itself a very stupid and silly course.

The corporatizer was done in, perhaps ironically, by the most corporatized part of the university, the football team. "Follow the money" remains good advice.

All the other parts - the hey-hey-ho-ho-ing and idiot media profs and poop swastikas - are just weird window dressing. This is the 58-56 analysis.

Very well stated.
