How can throwing a ball out of bounds be intentional grounding?
Makes no damn sense! Especially when the real intentional grounding (spiking the ball) isn't called under this rule.

You get an exception for spiking as long as it is done immediately after the snap.

In a sense, no different than not calling a place holder (for kicks) down just because he is already kneeling down.

Throwing it away out of bounds is exactly why the intentional grounding call was made in the first place...

If you have a receiver in the area, or you are out of the pocket, you can throw it whereever you want in most cases.

There is more to the rule than throwing out of bounds. Outside of the tackle box and past the line of scrimmage.

Perfect description. The rule was instituted to prevent just slinging he ball out of bounds.....unless of course you're out of the pocket/tackle box as others have stated.
