Lady Bucs beat Milligan 88-56
Women’s basketball started off well with an 88-56 win over Milligan. The Lady Bucs pressed the entire way, causing 20 turnovers, while losing only 12. They shot 9-18 from 3, led by Shamauria Bridges (4-6), Tianna Tarter (2-4) and 5-11 Freshman Carley Lytton from Floyd, VA (2-3) who got 10 points in 14 minutes.

Replacing front court players Destiny Mitchell, Serena Clark and Maria Bond is key. In their place we started 6-2 Sr JUCO Shomari Kendrick (12 minutes, 13 points, 3 rebounds) and 6-1 Freshman Sadasia Tipps (21 minutes, 2 points, 5 rebounds, 3 blocks and 2 steals). Off the bench 6’4” JUCO Jr. from the Dominican Republic Yamile Rodriquez got 17 minutes, scored 7 points, 16 rebounds and 4 blocks.

16 rebounds in 17 minutes??? That's rare-air territory. Gracious.

How does Milligan have 26 on their roster? I know they are NAIA but boy that's a lot of women.

I notice that UW-Stout fielded 20 when they played Green Bay. It's a different world.

I was really impressed with freshman Carly Lytton. Good crowd at Brooks for an exhibition.

How could they possibly let Milligan score 56?? And all those missed lay ups!!! Just trying to ensure equality of criticism.....

I was as well. She came out and looked like playing college ball was nothing for her, just another day on the court.

I was also impressed with Yamile. I think she's going to make up for losing some of our other taller gals easily.

The offseason has treated the rest of the team pretty well also. Some fantastic improvements across the board with all the ladies.

05-mafia

Equal criticism aside, Milligan has some pretty good players. I don't know much about them, but they are likely to be a force in their own conference this year. A spunky and scrappy bunch.

Hey I will take 56 (21 less then 77) all day, on 29% shooting and 26.7% from 3. that looks like the kind of D you should play on a lesser team, but the 14 layups missed does seem high, but in fairness the women do play more below the rim.
