So, they count season tix holders and probably got some corporate sponsor ticket blocks sold today. And I do not think you've seen any Miami fans on these boards lately knocking EMU for attendance...people who live in "glass" houses......well, you know the rest.
BTW, EMU's place-kicker is a beast! He can really kick.....two long FG's today.
I'm guessing it is mainly corporate sponsor tickets to make an 8,000 difference.
Akron inflated their numbers for years by going that route. Last year, they went the EMU "butts in the seats reporting", which got them a bunch of " lowest attendance in the nation" negative PR.
This year, since they are going to have to buy back tickets anyway, decided to give out 8,000 tickets to each game to recent graduates. Not a bad strategy if you will have to buy back tickets at the end of the year anyway. Even if only 10 percent of those are used, its still better than 0 percent and you have to pay for them anyway. Plus, whatever are used helps in terms of concessions.
I'm sure somebody has the numbers, I haven't paid attention, but I'm guessing Akron's attendance will be about three times higher this year (after the Kent game) than what it was last year. Even if a bulk of that is bogus, beats having the lowest attendance in the country articles.
I guess bottom line, while EMU's reporting may be the noble thing to do. There isn't much incentive not to cook the books with attendance numbers if you are struggling.
