I think Marshall has found a PG in Stevie Browning until Jon Elmore gets on the floor in the 2nd semester. Browning had 18 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists and 2 steals.

If we ever have a kid transfer to VMI, I hope we keep the same hard stance on them transferring as VMI has had towards Jon Elmore. I think its petty that VMI wouldn't release him from his scholarship.

I know this team is young, but I just do not see them being competitive without much better recruiting. I'll trust Dan for now, but to run the style of offense he runs, you need the best shooters and fast guys.

If we have any scholarships left for next year we need to find 2 bigs to replace Kelly and Taylor, other than that I think we have a group that can and will run D'Antoni's system. The system that D'Antoni runs isn't as physical as say Herrion or even Jones. Under D'Antoni we aren't going to have but 1-3 kids over 6'8. A lot of cutting to the rim, fast passing pick 'n' roll and 3 point shooting.

If you have paid any attention at all to Matt Daniel and the ladies, you can see how D'Antoni can build this team. Its taken Daniel 3 years to build the girls but he now has the Gatorade player of the year in WV playing for him and 6 1,000 point scores from HS in just the last recruiting class. And has a 4 star transfer sitting out this year and 2 1,000 point scorers committed for next year. If you have players that can shoot the ball then you don't need to be under the rim banging and clanging all the time. Id much rather have a 65-70% shooter and a player that can shoot at least 70% from the FT line, and can take a charge or two than someone who is going to try and run over people and score.

I wish we would have got to have more than 1 year with Kelly.

RE: Marshall vs UT Knoxville
Having attended most home games last season, watched our first exhibition at home, and watched last night's game on TV, I think Stevie Browning is a potential game changer for us efficiently running Dantoni's system. He blazes down the court and ended up in our half of the court at the same time the last Tennessee player did, typically. It's light years better than having Nikolic attempt the point like last year.

With that being said, we've got to make the smart shots and not just ride 3's all game long. They were going in early and we ended up cold later on but just kept heaving up ugly 3's in the second half.

Assuming we progress throughout the season in the same way we did last season, we could see some really good things this year.

With that being said, I've been pretty underwhelmed with our recruiting so far. The first 2 eastern Europeans (Nikolic and Mijovic) are really bad. I haven't seen enough out of Dozic to say one way or the other. I figured with the NBA experience of Dantoni and the recent stardom of Duhon, we could attract some pretty decent players.

Kelly was really good last night, but didn't he transfer before Dantoni arrived? Browning and Kelly (if he transferred in during Dantoni) are the only ones under this current staff that show a lot of promise and they're both transfers. I want to see some comparable talent coming in from high school.

I think DD brought in Kelly, Browning and Elmore but I agree on the Europeans. Coach has the roster a little lop sided with too many littler guys. A third guy to help Taylor and Kelly would put us in the money.

I don't think he had much choice with taking the Europeans after coming in so late. They were his first go to to get someone in the class that year. He has more time to be selective from here on out. Whether he makes the most of that is up to him.

Did VMI explain what (if anything) that was all about

I would imagine it's standard policy not to release the scholarship for a transfer. But there is no love lost between Marshall and VMI going back to the Southern Conference days.
