I would say UCF is an example of how quick it can turn. GOL isn't suddenly a bad coach...but I think their personnel didn't work out well this year (obviously).
I was taking classes there back when UCF and "donors" were putting a lot more money into their school *ahem*on campus stadium*ahem* then we ever were. It was "projected" UCF would become a powerhouse of a university program ala Florida and Florida State.
It, um, hasn't gone very well.
EDIT: I guess I should add that my girlfriend at the time was one of the football "assistants" who would work directly with the coaching staff and was there on game days on the sidelines with clipboards, audio equipment, etc. She was directly keyed in on most program matters. I don't think anyone here realizes how much money and effort went in to trying to make UCF a national leader within 10 years time. I moved out of Florida about 7 years ago...no idea what happened.
