I saw this earlier. Fantastic news! Congrats to the girls.

Don't know how successful the womens soccer program has been, but its always good for other sports outside the big 2 to be successful.

This is honestly their first year of note in quite some time (a decade plus). Our Men's team a good run in the late '00's, including a Big East championship in 2006, but the women never really took off until they made a very strong coaching hire two years ago. They are definitely.moving in the right direction, and are an extremely young team. 78% of their starts will be returning next year, and all but three of those returning players who have recorded a start are Sophomores or Freshmen.

Admittedly, I hardly pay attention other than checking scores from time to time, but I can't understand why we can't have an average to above average women's basketball team. We were mediocre with Pirtle and have been absolutely dreadful ever since.

Whit Babcock gave her a contract extension two years ago. We'd be paying for two coaches in a sport that bleeds money.

Back to ladies soccer, glad to see things are going well. If you look at big picture there is no reason why we can't excel in ladies soccer: lots of good soccer being played in the 100-150 mile radius of Cincinnati.

Coach Stafford is doing a good job and is a good guy too. Always very friendly with other athletics staff. I have been rooting for them since I first met him. They had some really bad luck as one of their big fundraisers had to be canceled due to a problem with the bubble last year. Win Sunday and they are dancing!

RE: Women's Soccer In AAC CCG
Congratulations to the women on a great victory--now let's take a conference crown!

Winning in sports other than football and men's basketball matters when the university is trying to move into a more high profile situation. How about UCLA with 112 national championships across their entire athletic program? Simply remarkable. That's the high water mark in the NCAA but much closer to home Louisville has done a fine job of winning in a variety of varsity sports.

It's great for our University, our student athletes and the national profile of UC. Go 'Cats.

I agree. It's great to see some of the other sports stepping their level up. Track and Field has been noticeably better, women's volleyball is having a good year, and both of the soccer teams are solid. I don't pretend to follow these closely, but they do add to our overall value.

I seem to remember woman's volleyball was pretty successful in the Big East at one point. Cincinnati needs to go out and find the right coaches for our other sports. There is enough talent in Ohio that both of our soccer teams, and most all our woman's sports should be winning regularly ( maybe not conference titles every year, but winning records).

And at the time it was the right thing to do. She had taken over a complete mess that was going to take a few years to clean up. Now, a couple of years down the road, it is apparent that there needs to be a change since she has had a couple of seasons with a full roster, and one that she recruited. I would think if the team is .500 or under this year there will be a move made.

Volleyball is having a decent year. They are currently 15-8, which is a big improvement.

They were really good in the Big East, had a great coach, then he went and made some poor decisions and was forced to resign.

Volleyball will only get better as we have some incredibly talented underclassmen. Coach Alvey has the program headed in a very positive direction.

I've said this before on here, but Cincinnati is the #2 volleyball recruiting area in the country after Southern California in both Men's and Women's volleyball. It's a travesty with the men's programs we have in the area (Moeller and St. X are typically Top 25 National Programs) that Volleyball can't get off the ground on the men's side. And as stated before, our volleyball team was fantastic in the Big East, unfortunately the coach decided to cross some lines and that reflected in the recruiting for a few year. Now that Alvey has solidified a position and play style here, we will see large gains very quickly.

Soccer-wise, the state of Ohio is growing rapidly as a recruiting hotbed, so I only see us becoming better with increased success that this new staff has brought. The fact that we are extremely young in many women's sports that are already havkng success bodes very well for the future here.

When Akron can have a little soccer Dynasty, I know UC can do it if they invest in the right coach.
