Great work......I don't wish to throw in the proverbial monkey wrench into the process but..........If it were up to Carolina, our three games would be played against Dook, UVa and either Wake Forest or Georgia Tech.

Wake.

Definitely NC State for football, are you kidding?

That's why there needs to be 4 permanent rivals and an 8 game schedule.

We only play GT yearly because they joined the ACC. Before that, we had more history with Georgia and Tennessee. 04-wine

My bad. I thought he was asking to pick between Wake and GT. Yes, State would get that vote.

NCAA allow this to happen.

- Keep the divisions the same.
- Have 3 permanent rivals, 2 within the division, 1 cross division.
- Play 3 of 4 division members each year on a rotating basis.
- Play 2 of 6 cross division schools each year on a rotating basis.

Essentially, your cross division schedule mimics what it would be if there were 9 conference games each year. You achieve that by giving up one in division game each year.

This is a very reasonable compromise. You only miss one team/year from your own division, and two of them are guaranteed to be every year (plus your cross-over rival).

Ex. UNC would be guaranteed NC State and presumably Duke and UVa as well, and they would play Wake Forest 3 out of every 4 years. MO BETTA!

I have no clue, but I'm thinking if anything this has the best chance.

If I'm reading this right, the permanent partners would look something like this:

Atlantic

Florida State...Clemson, Louisville, Miami
Clemson.........Florida State, NC State, Ga Tech
Louisville........Florida State, Syracuse, Va Tech
NC State........Clemson, Wake Forest, UNC
Syracuse........BC, Louisville, Pitt
BC.................Syracuse, Wake Forest, Virginia
Wake Forest....NC State, BC, Duke

Coastal

Va Tech..........Virginia, Miami, Louisville
Virginia.......... UNC, Va Tech, BC
UNC...............Virginia, Duke, NC State
Duke..............UNC, Ga Tech, Wake
Pitt................Miami, Ga Tech, Syracuse
Ga Tech..........Duke, Pitt, Clemson
Miami.............Va Tech, Pitt, Florida State

Still, not everyone will be happy, but happy isn't really possible for everybody. My concern would be how you would schedule the rotations so you don't have seasons in which a school winds up playing either all the strong opponents or all weaker ones, either virtually guaranteeing them a spot in a CCG or giving them no chance at all.

Trying to create schedules that avoid this is above my pay grade.

No, I'm not kidding, you must be pretty young because NOBODY in my age bracket gives a rats rear end about playing those yokels in anything.

And the administration wants Georgia Tech on the schedule because Carolina now has more alumni in the Atlanta area than in any other place outside of the State of North Carolina (and they are well-to-do and make contributions individually and through corporations to the University as a whole, not just athletics).

You know full well there is no official release so you can stop with the asinine disclaimer.

But for such a "huge" rivalry game tickets for NC State last year cost the same as tickets for Syracuse. Other than the Thursday night game a few years back GT tickets have always been more expensive than any ACC game except FSU.

I see nothing asinine about the disclaimer.

I'm in my early 30's and I don't know anybody that prefers playing GT over State (Wake, yes), especially the older generations. UNC scheduled State OOC in baseball, I can't see them doing that for GT.

Well, point taken I guess. Still, the decision makers placed State as the cross-division over Wake.

BTW, in my last post I meant some people prefer to play Wake over State and GT.

How did the ACC decide who was in which division? Why not a north & south?

North Carolina got to pick out the best recruiting areas and stuck Clemson and FSU with the dregs.

RE: ACC Divisions
Divisions are only used for football and baseball. North-South divisions would have left the South top-heavy. With the 4 NC schools split plus BC and Miami (the 2 farthest schools) in opposite divisions, there may have be some effort to equalize travel. Or they may have picked names out of a hat.
