Holtz picks Fuente for USC
Read here
Quote:"I think Justin Fuente at Memphis has done a great job," Holtz said when asked who he would hire if the decision as left up to him. "I like him because I like to look at a guy that has been at the school a couple of years and built something because I'd rather have a guy that has shown he can recruit and sustain success than guy that just took what somebody else built and won."

hes wrong, Fuente is living off someone else's recruits and has lost control of the team, we are lucky to win any games, it is all smoke and mirrors, USC should stay clear of the risky pick of Fuente as their coach...

When you say USC, to which one are you referring? They both are looking for coaches. Since Holtz has South Carolina ties, I'm guessing there. And I don't see Fuente taking that job. He will get bigger/better offers than to take one where he will be mid-pack.
If you are talking the real USC, then he would probably jump on that. However, I feel they are going to go for a splash hire - they usually do. I'm sure they've already spoken to Chip Kelley.

I think I may take old Lou for the Dead Pool 2016. Forgot he was still around.

He also said something stupid like the only way Temple beats Notre Dame is if the game is on Sunday. Temple will be at the Temple on Saturday. Notre Dame will be at church on Sunday and would not be able to show up for the game. I am paraphrasing. It was some kind of stupid statement like that.
The Temple-ND game ended up going down to the wire.

My bad ...he was referring to South Carolina.
I don't think that's a very good job, but it wouldn't shock em to see him take it. He won't get a major P5 job unless a lot of guys turn those schools (USC, UGA, etc.) down. If he's looking to make a jump to a P5 job, S. Carolina and Miami make sense.

For some reason I'm thinking Texas is going to be in the picture for Coach Fuente. I don't think Coach Strong is as safe as people believe.

Him being a Miami alum.. I could see Richt taking that job.

I wouldn't be so sure about that. Unless you are one of the absolute kings of college football - USC probably qualifies, but not UGA - it seems tougher to hire other P5 HC's these days. Plenty of money to go around, so guys aren't jumping like they used to.
Last year Florida hired a newcomer from Colorado State. I mean, Richt had never been a HC when UGA hired him. Don't underestimate the attention that Fuente is getting this year.

I hear ya - and maybe you're right - but I just don't see either of those places hiring "the Memphis coach"...as stupid as that may be. And yes, Florida did it...but the Colorado State coach wasn't their top pick.
