RE: Pie in the sky question
Even more to the point if Memphis were fortunate enough to get the CFP slot, it means 2-3 (2 P5 conference champs & ND) eligible P5 schools don't make it who were otherwise competing for it. And that just moves the dominos down. That will make it all the more difficult to get a second AAC school in a major bowl.

Badly needs to go to 6 play off quickly I believe because a few schools are going to be very upset. should be all top 10 ranked schools playing a playoff

I'm for an expanded playoff too. The problem will just be expanded P5 teams involved to the exclusion of the G5. They'll throw us a bone, like they did with the access bowl to get that highest ranking G5 school in but then rank a lot of 2-3 loss P5 schools over the better G5/AAC schools to take up all the slots - and the money. Unless an impersonal computer program is written & employed that truly looks at the real quality of wins & SOS/SOR, is devoid of the P5 bias, the G5 will always get the short straw. The P5 has this game rigged & they won't give it up or share.

I like your original post of 116 teams so SMU can make it

It would still be a close call.
