RE: June Jones back to Hawai'i?
My personal opinion:
Hawaii football should become the American Football version of hugely successful Pacific nations Rugby teams.
That would mean a hard, smashing running game, delivering vicious blows by large bodies warriors.
Jones's system isn't going to deliver that.

I don't know why they wouldn't. He's probably the only guy who knows how to win there.

It's been reported that Pat Hill is also applying for the job.

Hawaii should get June Jones back. Purdue should get Joe Tiller back. Rutgers should get Greg Schiano back. Maryland should get Ralph Fridgen back. Illinois should get John Mackovic back.
I'm only kidding about John Mackovic.

Bill Snyder took the K-State job a second time and did well, but he was only gone for three years.
More often, when a college football team brings a head coach back for a second run, it's not as successful as the first time.

I've heard arguments that June would the best candidate because he know what he is up against with the UH system and the Hawaiian state legislators. He knows the work arounds of the system and anybody else would just be frustrated with the crap they have to put up with and leave.

I don't think there's a big enough sample size to definitively make that claim. Usually, someone is so good they last for their whole career, get fired, "fired" by resignation or forced into retirement. Rarely does anyone do what Snyder did.
The only other example I can think of was Joe Gibbs going back to the Redskins, which to enhance your point didn't work out at all.

I could see Hawai'i resorting to a hard-hitting triple option if they weren't getting sufficient WR & pocket QB talent. A quality O-line would be necessary though. I guess the necessary blocking prowess comes with that whole warrior theme.
Jones =/= this scenario though

John Robinson's second time at USC and Johnny Majors' second stint at Pitt were both unsuccessful.

RE: June Jones back to Hawai'i?
Like I said, there's not a big enough sample size. It's looking like 1/4. 25%, including the NFL which isn't really applicable, is not bad at all imo. Phil Jackson came back to the Lakers and made the Finals and won titles again without Shaq. Not applicable directly to college football but I feel the data is inconclusive.

Well it did not stop Louisville from hiring back Bobby Petrino. I guess the jury is still out on that one.

Yep. I'd say he's doing solid so far (a really, really tough schedule so far for him). We'll see how it ends up.

I wouldn't call any of the academies OLs top-notch on the grand scale, but they seem to make do. Imagine Polys chop blocking en masse.
Bob Wagner's OC was none other than...Paul Johnson. Will he need a job after this season?
I suppose with that option chewing up clock I won't be up until 3:00am waiting for a Warrior game to end, assuming it's a matchup worth dialing up in the first place

I can imagine that the reasons those coaches moved on in the first place (bad leadership, crumbling facilities, etc) were still in place the second go-round--they indeed were. In Grandpa Snyder's case, K-State at least looks to do a solid job of keeping up.
In Gibb's case, he wasn't going to overcome working for The Turk.

Never understood why they couldn't get some decent WR and QB talent out there. I mean, it's a good school and you get to live in Hawaii for four years

RE: June Jones back to Hawai'i?
They get good lineman because of all those Samoan kids.
One negative thing about Hawai'i is that while some are enamored with coming out there because of the location, alternatively they get homesick. You can't just get in the car and drive home and the same applies for any parent looking to visit their student. It's a double edge sword of sorts.
Alternatively, if they ever get a super recruiting class in football or basketball, watch out. Long term though, it would be too many issues.
