For all you hoops guys, and all you Aggie haters, note that NMSU is also receiving votes in this poll. We [Western schools] never should have allowed the Coastal add without an all sports invitation to NMSU.

I am surprised that ULM is not.

I think it's holdover from the days when Memphis was in the league. They've just never adjusted to add the league.

I hope you guys knock Tech off in the finals of the tournament at your place this year. It would be great if there were lots of questionable calls that looked like home-cooking too. The whining, wailing, and gnashing of teeth last year about how unfair it all was to them was priceless.

Basketball "mid-major"

Typically, in football, the term "mid-major" is used to reference teams that are members of a conference other than the Power Five. In Basketball, with 32 division 1 conferences, some believe the term uses an arbitrary litmus test, based on how many teams from a given conference qualify for the NCAA tournament in a "good" year, or how much success a given conference has had in the NCAA tournament, or even conference revenue and attendance.

The Big East Conference is not in the Power Five, but is widely considered a high-major conference. The Missouri Valley Conference, widely considered a "mid-major" conference, has received two, three, or even four NCAA tournament bids in every year from the 1990s through 2007, while the Horizon League has had a higher NCAA tournament winning percentage than most "major" conferences from 2005-2011 (.654, 17-9).

The Horizon League also advanced three different teams (Butler, Milwaukee, Cleveland State) to at least the second round of the NCAA Tournament every year over that span, and with four teams in 11 of the last 14 years (including Detroit).

Moreover, the Missouri Valley Conference had an average attendance of nearly 2,000 more people per game than the Atlantic 10, and outdrew Conference USA by over 2,000 per game during the 2005-06 season.[2]

Given the sustained success of many so-called "mid-major" conferences, higher profile conferences find it more difficult to distinguish themselves with the "mid-major" and "major" labels in college basketball .

I have no idea how Collegeinsider.com chooses their 17 "mid-major" conferences out of the 32 division 1 basketball conferences.

RE: Cajuns Basketball No. 12 In CollegeInsider.com Mid Major Top 25
I'm very surprised that ULM isn't at least receiving votes too after only losing 1 starter and bringing in some top recruits. Oh well.

Quote:Now in its 17th year of existence, the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top 25 poll is made up of teams from the America East, Atlantic Sun, Big Sky, Big South, Big West, Colonial, Horizon, Independents, Ivy, Metro Atlantic, Mid-American, Mid-Eastern, Missouri Valley, Northeast, Ohio Valley, Patriot, Southern, Southland, Southwestern Athletic, Summit, Sun Belt, West Coast and Western Athletic conferences.

I was getting ready to complain about a lack of ODU or UAB when I saw your post. Missouri Valley a mid-major but not C-USA? pfft.

I hope you guys knock Tech off in the finals of the tournament at your place this year. It would be great if there were lots of questionable calls that looked like home-cooking too. The whining, wailing, and gnashing of teeth last year about how unfair it all was to them was priceless.
Lol...so true. They still use that as an excuse....the little cry babies.

Didnt @rsuton get the 1 seed and then complained about UAB having an unfair advantage? What a bunch of entitled, whiny azzhats.

I think the expectations for UL this season are just about right. I would love to pick up a win against one of the powers we play in OOC. UCLA win would be nice!

Yeah...the meltdown on the laturd board after they lost that game was priceless, lol. Dey waz robbed!!!! Lol.

And that was also the game when the totally classless laturd fanbase yelled 'we got football' at their conference mates. Just because they were loosing. What scum.

Disregard the name of the thread for just a moment, the latest poll came out.

http://www.collegeinsider.com/mens-mid-major-top-25.php

I'm okay with not being in the poll, since it was only Ohio State that we beat and we on tap for Memphis that night. But I am a little peeved that we didn't even receive votes. Since when does beating a perennial Big 10 power not receive a little respect at our level?

yes, a lot of the teams on that list have already been thumped by some of the "name" teams so it is hard to make much sense of it.

Five of the nine posts made by ULL fans on this thread mention La Tech in one way or another. This is fairly common. Why is that? We don't see Troy or USA fans constantly bringing up UAB in SBC conversations. We don't see Texas State fans constantly bringing up Rice, UTEP, UTSA, or UNT. For that matter, we rarely see ULM fans mention La Tech. But since those Cajuns brought us up, I gotta ask, has anybody here happened to have noticed the 4-0 start our MEN'S BB team is off to? A 4-0 start that includes a win over UTA, as well as our win over Ohio State last night. I know it's only the first four games in a long season, but still, a pretty good start for our new coach, wouldn't you say?

And to those ULL fans, thanks for always keeping us in your thoughts. And I do mean ALWAYS.

Why is there a 'sticky' thread on the ltu-R board dedicated to nothing but UL? Why are there ltu-R people who do nothing but tour our campus and venues and take pics of every missing 'L' they come across??? Talk abut obsessed. And all this while in the middle of having a good FB season?

Why do so many ltu-R little fellas post on RP on a regular basis? Why aren't the RP folks allowed on the ltu-R site?

You have no credibility that this is one-sided.

Now slither back to your cusa site and leave us alone.
