TJ McCollum is probably our best defender. Morris is prolly second best. UAB has helped our D tremendously.

I said it before, FAU had the perfect gameplan to play us. Unfortunately our defense is just decent enough to stop them occasionally, and our offense has come alive this half. Kudos to them for their play though, really tough and well coached for sure.

A fourth down stop? Inconceivable!

I remember watching Jaquez Johnson as a sophomore ore thinking he had the size and skill to eventually develop into an amazing QB. He just never refined his game nor developed any touch on his passes over the years. He's overthrown open receivers just isn't accurate in his routes. That a shame because he seemed he had the potential to be a real star.

I disagree with that. I saw a very bad QB with decent running ability. Turns out that is what he is.

They will improve next season once he is gone.

Inept play in the red zone is what has cost us the loss, basically. As soon as we get there, our play becomes ultra conservative.

And Quez seems to still be hampered by the bad ankle.

Not sure what it is, but FAU loves playing in BG...For FAU fans, do you guys usually play better on the road or is this just a BG thing? Your WR's were making circus catches, your LB I mean QB was getting first downs, just crazy the way you played us for most of the game.....FOr whatever reason we just struggle against you guys, was real impressed by your RB, he is very quick....NOt a slight for your QB, but did he gain some weight this off season? He did not look this big last season if my memory serves me correctly....

Anyways will take the win and that Taylor catch should be on SC TOP 10 plays, saw reply just now and that was an unbelievable catch, also glad he is ok now...Also had a great time in BG with my daughter for basketball game last night and football game today....I will say still disappointed in our attendance, but the mass exodus that usually happens after halftime at Homecoming was not as bad as years past, so I guess that is some progress?.

Not only is he bigger (it was reported that he is gaining weight, on purpose), he has gotten slower on his feet. Not just because he is bigger but because his ankle seems to still bother him. I believe we should have shelved him right after his injury in the beginning of the second game and went after a medical exception, just in case. I think, at this early point in his career, baby Driskel is already a better passer than Quez will ever be.

Late Edit: Kinda happy we made your number ones stay on the field the whole game.

My observations on the game. How in the heck has FAU won only 2 games? They have decent QB's, good backs and receivers and a very good O line. Using ball control to keep the WKU offense off the field is the best way to beat the Toppers.
Doughty was terrific yesterday and both backs Ferby and Wales had good games. Taywan Taylor will likely be on a NFL roster in a couple of years, the catch he made was incredible.
Both offenses moved the ball well but the Toppers did a better job once FAU was in the red zone. Each team only punted once. Imagine a Topper offense with Higbee and Gorski, Allen, Wales and Ferby all healthy.
FAU should be much better next season with Driskel, Rodriquez, and their long athletic receivers.

Good points Franko. I always feel like both of the Florida teams have the talent. They can get CUSA level talent by accident.

This time of year if any team has talent they should know all of their playbook on offense and dee. There's a reason for the saying 'any given saturday'. FAU is also just a team we have trouble with. There are no gimmes. Especially when you're in first and everyone wants to beat you. You get their best shot.

I thought our defense played well holding them to 19. I don't know what their offense was averaging coming in.

If a coach is smart he uses the ODU coaches idea of shortening the game against Western because if you give us the ball we're going to score. I don't like it because I'm a topper fan. But I completely understand it. Control the ball long enough and keep it close and you never know what can happen.

It's a reason I believe Coach Brohm has worked on the running game so much the last few games. We had a long drive in the 4th quarter that essentially finished the game yesterday. It's not as fun to watch as a double reverse pass to the qb for a touchdown but it helps us close out games.

We finally get a week off. This has been a tough schedule the way it was laid out. Get some folks healed up from nicks and bruises and hopefully we can take out FIU in Miami to set up a classic showdown against Marshall.

Our big goal starting out this year was to win the conference. We still have a shot at that. I'm very content. See my Vonnegut signature. It applies.

We've made it through this long run. 1st place. 0 conference losses. Finally we have a bye. Get rested, healed. Hopefully get Higbee back. Huge game at FIU in 2 weeks.

Higbee had a brace on his knee, but seemed to be walking around well on the sidelines yesterday....Would be nice to ease him back in the FIU game and hopefully getting him really amped up for Marshall game....That was his breakout game last season..

NOt sure why FAU record is so bad, you guys have some talent on your team....Your DL got to Doughty more in first half then LSU did all game against us....Really impressive to say the least.....FOr FAU, have your coaches just pretend you are gearing up to play WKU every week and you should win most games...

Well, that's something I've been harping on for two and a half years. FAU has blown more two score leads than any other team I have ever heard of. Even this year:

Tulsa (we held a 10 point lead in 4th quarter), Buffalo (we held a 10 point lead late in the second quarter), Rice (we held a 12-point lead in the 4th quarter). That's just this season. We could have well been 5-4 right now, not 2-7.

It seems we always find a way to lose games. This issue has been with us since the very first season in C-USA. Possibly even since the year before that.

My opinion on this matter is that WKU is an ideal match for FAU - pass-happy team without an overwheliming D-line. You are a much tougher proposition for teams that can not get to Doughty or lack the secondary of FAU's caliber.

We can't stop the run and, sometimes, run is an afterthought for WKU (understable, because when you have Doughty, it is easy to fall into bad habits of ignoring the run). And on the other side of the ledger, we can control the line of scrimmage because WKU does not have powerful QB pressure and we can run the ball a bit. That's why we look much better against WKU than against Marshall or MTSU.

What happened against UTEP is still a mystery to me. By all comparisons, we should have run them off the field but the opposite had happened. It's just one of those things that defy explanation.
