A big reason for the decline of interest in UTA football, ultimately leading to the demise of the program was moving off-campus. Hearing that phrase is like fingernails on a chalk board to me.

The new student housing and five brand new off campus apartment complexes are all walking distance to the arena and stadium.
That is the perfect set up for athletics .
SO even if expansion is more expensive do to the tight footprint its worth it .

Yeah, off campus is a slipper slope, College Students, especially Greek Organizations, don't like to drive to football games. Limits the ability to party.
I believe Rok is talking a basketball venue

Still counts. Off campus facilities for any sport can lead to less student involvement. Kids want to party, hard to do that if you have to drive 20+ miles back to campus.

We are talking about a relatively few number of games that would be in the heart of all of the fun and most students would go anyway. But it is just my pipe dream ... I doubt it happens.

The initial arena proposal had it across the street from main campus. There is also a large plot of land that has become parking lot at the front of campus that they may be eyeing for any new arena. Or perhaps they can expand what we currently have - I was impressed with what Grand Canyon did - but ours is not the same setup so not sure how feasible it would be.

part of the excitement at uta games was the band marching from the bandhall down greek row to the stadium. as they went along more fans joined in. having the stadium on campus is the way to go if possible. an off campus stadium just never feels quite like home.

Coastal got a good crowd for ECU at the convention center it holds six thousand .
That is always a second home option.
Adding 1500-2000 seats to the current arena would be ideal .

They liked to say that App and Georgia Southern, while good additions, wouldn't be able to compete right away in football and most other sports. The good news is that what people have been saying and will continue to say won't matter. Southern went 8-0 in conference last season and App is 7-1 overall this year. Speculation will reign until 2017. 04-cheers

Why is it that the only people ragging on CCU are the USA folks?
ULL fans would normally be all-in on ragging the FCS move-up....but it's their quiet time.

ULL fans, at least those who post here, have generally been very supportive of CCU from what I recall. We see their basketball, and especially their baseball, as solid RPI additions. This is something the Belt desperately needs with so much basketball suckage in particular. You can probably relate.

But like Rok said, it takes time to go through the proper approvals. You have to remember...this Sun Belt thing got sprung on us rather quickly. But we will respond. I have no doubt.

As a resident of Greenville SC i'm looking forward to my TROY boys coming there and introducing some proper SBC love. 05-stirthepot

Things are moving forward. The architect was selected last week and I hear they are working on final designs now. Remember, we are following state construction processes and they can take a while.
Curious as to what the final design will look like. I am sure you will post a rendering or link once the choice is made.

As a native of Greenville, SC, I know that you're closer to Boone and to Atlanta than you are to Conway. But I get what you're saying: the additional of Coastal makes it even easier to see some Troy games on the road.

RE: To Coastal fans--How are the stadium plans going?
Follow the below link for a recent article from our beat writer. It provides a current status of the project and what we can expect from the process but we don't have any real details yet on the stadium. They hope to have preliminary designs in January with cost estimates and then decide what we want vs what we can afford. They are hoping to have a matching tower / suites. I've heard some discussion of the difference between 20,000 seats and 20,000 total capacity but sounds like the president wants 20,000 seats - which is great. The article says you need 1 toilet per 100 seats - is that accurate? We'd have to add 100 toilets for 10,000 seats? Seems like a lot but I'm sure we'll appreciate the facilities when it's a packed house.

Coastal must have really grown a lot over the past decade to 15 years. I think only one member of my high school graduating class of 244 went to Coastal (outside of community college and straight I to a work, the class was dominated by Clemson, Sc, and CofC-bound students). Cool that Coastal is joining the Belt.

It has, it is pretty impressive to see the campus now. It has only gotten bigger and will continue to solidify itself. I think the move to the belt makes sense for both sides.
