American Conference strength per CFP Committee
Same number of ranked teams as the Pac 12.

More ranked teams than the ACC.

Which tells us nothing about the conference. E.g., in 1990, UNLV was the best college basketball team, but the conference they came from, the Big West, was awful.

The committee disagrees with you. As do most

Really?
Apparently it told the CFP committee something. Since strength of schedule was a major component of the ranking process. But haters gonna hate....

Clemson is #1 because of their Notre dame win, not because of any ACC win.

You do realize "the deal" ND has with the ACC in regards to football affiliation and scheduling right? They are all but a ACC football member based on the number of games they have to play against ACC competition.

Houston beat Ville in about the same manner as Clemson. @Ville.

It's still an OOC game. It's not one of the 8 conference games for Clemson.

I remember Jeff Long saying something about Clemson having 4 wins against teams with winning records. I'm guessing that would App St, ND, MIAMI, NC STATE...the last 2 being ACC teams. So yes ACC wins did matter.

Nah. Louisville led Houston with 6 mins left in the game. Clemson took control mid way through the 3rd quarter and never trailed again.

But also, undefeated Memphis 12 spots behind undefeated Clemson, one loss Temple 6 spots behind one-loss FSU, and undefeated Houston 24 spots behind one loss Clemson and nine spots behind one-loss FSU.

So on the CFP poll test, it is certainly not an unambiguous AAC>ACC ... the top of the ACC slots in higher than the top of the AAC.

And we can't tell how they would make the BC/WF versus UCF/SMU comparison, since they only rank 25, and to be confident of getting all of those sorted out, we might need a top 100 or more (eg, Sagarin has those 75/94 vs 148/126).

well, it's pretty much AAC's spot to lose after Toledo loses tonight.... Was pretty much anyways- but now even if Navy wins, they have it. And Memphis and Houston now even have a mulligan should they both lose.

At this point the top 4 contenders for the access bowl are from the AAC.

Ville lost by 3 to both teams. Houston scored 30, Clemson scored 20.

Navy isn't a serious contender for the access bowl.

All they have done is lose to Notre Dame. They don't have any P5 wins. Their resume is no more impressive than Appalachian State's. Above all they are only 3rd in their division behind Memphis & Houston.

Toledo is 3rd in their division after losing tonight but at least they still have 2 P5 wins to work with. They have a big challenge within their own division then have the luxury of facing Bowling Green as a cross divisional opponent who is playing very good right now. I'd say they are behind Bowling Green at the moment in the autobid race.

And that's still their best win, but not Clemson's --- and the Cards are a mid-pack ACC team at best this season. And they are what the 1st, or 2nd best team in the conference...?

Not much of a conference despite having 'more' ranked teams, huh?

Navy if they get the spot would have wins over Houston, Memphis, and Temple. Also, they aren't 3rd in their division, they are tied for first. Sorry you can't face facts, but that's reality. Sorry, but Navy absolutely controls their own destiny right now. And just stop that their resume isn't better than App St. App St has exactly 3 games all season long with teams over .500. Clemson, Georgia Southern, and Arkansas St. That's it. No way in hell that's better than Navy.

Only 1 school can win the AAC.

Should Navy win the AAC at 12-1 would they be a strong candidate for the G5 bid? Of course. However the odds of them doing it are slim.

Toledo is not leading its division. Boise is not leading its division. Both of those schools are on the very margins of the autobid discussion.

Bowling Green is leading its division and has 2 P5 wins. WKU is leading its conference and has a P5 win and a loss against a Top 10 school. Marshall and App have 1 loss but very weak non-conference slates.

Houston this week raised its stock considerably with a 2nd P5 win, IMO.

You are kidding yourself. If Navy finishes 12-1 with wins @Memphis, @Houston, and over Temple in the championship game they will absolutely be in the access bowl no question about it. Now they probably don't even win @Memphis this weekend, but if they do I'll bet you any amount of money you feel comfortable losing that they'll be ranked in the next CFP poll. Also what is this 3rd crap they aren't in third they are in a 3 way tie for first at 4-0 in the league.
