Week 10 Bowl Bubble Watch
Updated teams out of bowl contention after Week 9:
-UCF
-Charlotte (Ineligible due to transitional rules barring NCAA waiver approval, currently sit at 2-6 on the verge of being knocked out anyways)
-Kansas
-Wyoming
-North Texas
-EMU
-Miami (OH)
-NMSU
-UTSA
-SMU
-Hawaii
-ULM
UMass
-BC (as dbackjon has pointed out, BC's two victories are against 2 FCS teams which only one can count to bowl eligibility, meaning they would essentially be 5-7 if they won out. They would have to apply for a waiver)

Heading into Week 10, teams on the Bowl Bubble...

AAC
-Tulane (2-6 Home against UConn)

ACC

-Wake Forest (3-6 @ #8 Notre Dame)

-Boston College (3-6 NC State)

-Georgia Tech (3-6 Virginia Tech)

Big 10

-Maryland (2-6 Wisconsin)

Purdue (2-6 Illinois)

-Nebraska (2-6 Michigan State)

CUSA

-FAU (2-6 WKU)

Independents:

-Army (2-6 Air Force)

MAC

-Ball State (2-6 @WMU)

MWC

-UNLV (2-6 Hawaii)

-Fresno State (2-6 Nevada)

PAC 12

-Oregon State (2-6 #22 UCLA)

SunBelt

-Troy (2-6 ULM)

RE: Week 10 Bowl Bubble Watch
Note - BC is already OUT, as they have two FCS wins, so can only count one.

Even if they finish 6-6, they could only go bowling if all other eligible teams have a bowl.

UMass and ULM are also out, with 7 losses each.

ULM can still get to 6 wins since they have 13 games scheduled thanks to the Hawaii rule.

5-7 teams are not out yet.... There may be too many bowl tie tins and 5-7 P5's could have to go bowling.

5-7 teams would be selected in order of their APR. Guess I should Google that list.

This is correct and something I had not thought of. This could put a historically bad team or two in a bowl. Here are the top 10 APR teams who are not already bowl eligible, virtually assured of becoming bowl eligible, or eliminated from 5-7 contention.

#7. Nebraska (3-6, would need 2 wins)
#9. Vanderbilt (3-5, would need 2 wins)
#10. Army (2-6, would need 3 wins)
#13. Rutgers (3-5, would need 2 wins)
#14. Boston College (3-6, would need 2 wins)
#17. Georgia Tech (3-6, would need 2 wins)
#18. Virginia Tech (4-5, would need 1 win)
#19. Washington (4-4, would need 1 win)
#20. Louisville (4-4, would need 1 win)
#22. Indiana (4-4, would need 1 win)

RE: Week 10 Bowl Bubble Watch
How many Nebraska fans would be excited about seeing 5-7 team in any bowl, my guess would be very few.

That is the problem with so many bowls, essentially everyone is getting a participation trophy. And it sucks. I can remember back when an 8 win SEC team may or may not go bowling, and it wasn't that long ago.

But they would be 6-7. So out.

They could only fill a spot after all 6-6 or better teams are selected, and other exceptions met.

Boston College at 6-6 would be ahead of the group (exception #1, two FCS wins), but at 5-7 with two FCS wins, would be at back of pack.

Boston College at 6-6 would be ahead of the group (exception #1, two FCS wins), but at 5-7 with two FCS wins, would be at back of pack.

1. Teams finishing 6-6 with one win against an FCS team that does not fund 90% of the FCS maximum of 63 scholarships. In the 2012 season, programs in four FCS conferences cannot meet the 90% requirement (56.7 equivalents)—the Ivy League, the Patriot League, the Pioneer Football League, and the Northeast Conference.

2. 6-6 teams with two wins over FCS schools.

3. Teams that finish 6-7 with loss number seven in their conference championship game (that has been eliminated by the conference championship waiver rule).

4. 6-7 teams that normally play a 13-team schedule, such as Hawaii's home opponents.

5. FCS teams who are in the final year of the two-year FBS transition process, if they have at least a 6-6 record.

6. Finally, 5-7 teams that have a top-5 Academic Progress Rate (APR) score. This was later adjusted to allow other 5-7 teams to be selected thereafter—in order of their APR

It is almost a certainty at this point that there will not be enough 6-6 teams. You are correct BC at 6-6 would go first, Colorado or ULM at 6-7 next, and 5-7 teams in order of APR after that

Yes, but they would be selected before any 5-7 team if there are too many bowl eligible teams.

Still, they won't get that either.
