Mike Rhoades visits McMurtry College
Yesterday I had lunch at McMurtry College -- and Mike Rhoades paid a surprise visit. He said essentially:
"I'm Mike Rhoades and I'm your basketball coach. Our season starts this Saturday. We have 17 home games this year, and 12 of them are on Saturdays. Our home games are an hour and a half. So take a break from studying, grab your friends, and come out to our game. Heckle our opponents, yell at the officials. It's a great experience, you'll see us hustling, and in a year or two we'll be talking about March Madness and bringing that experience here to Rice."
Then he tossed out T-shirts to the students.

I can't speak for the students, but as an associate, this made my day 03-wink

As for the specifics of what Coach Rhoades did and said, my thoughts are:
It's that simple.
It has always been that simple.

Good for him. I hope he went to the other colleges as well.

I saw a tweet or a post saying yesterday was Day 2 of his tour (north colleges). So I'm guessing the day before was the south colleges. Excellent stuff.

He did. My girlfriend is an Associate at Martel and she texted me about going to the scrimmage because he was in the servery talking about it.

It was that simple and it worked when Thompson, Giovanne, Billeter did the same years ago. So much of what I see in Rhoades and staff remind me of the Thompson era....love it.

Braun visited the colleges too, but I can only imagine that the energy in the room was much more palpable with Rhoades.
