I agree for the most part with these type of bowls. Houston is good fit for Texas, Heart of Dallas or Independence if they do not get access bowl and others can't fill those bowls. I hope we don't have to fight it out with Memphis for BHam. We want USF bowling so they go to Miami Beach Bowl.

In addition to the conference's primary bowl affiliations, The American holds secondary partnerships with the AutoZone Liberty Bowl in Memphis, Tenn., the AdvoCare V100 Bowl in Shreveport, La., and the San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl in San Diego.
Is there any information on how the secondary bowl affiliations work? It wouldn't seem likely you could decline a primary affiliation to fill a secondary slot. Seems like secondaries would only come into play if a conference fills all of its primary slots.

Problem is a lot of the American bowls are around Christmas. Good luck getting reasonably priced flights on short notice. I understand not having a team tied in to a specific bowl, but I miss being able to plan as soon as you know a team is locked into 4th or 3rd or whatever.

You nailed it. Bowls around Christmas are a problem from family obligations and availability of flights. Birmingham is best for us based on timing and 7 hour drive.
