RIP Fred Thompson
I probably enjoyed his acting more than his political ventures but he definitely looked the part in both occupations.

I was really surprised to see that he was one of the attorney's congress brought in to help run the hearings on Watergate. I had never known that until a couple weeks ago.

RIP.

Yeah, he practiced law and was knee-deep in politics, then acted, then went back to politics. Pretty interesting guy.

I liked him on Law & Order.

FWIW my friend's father was a spitting image of Fred Thompson, even sounding like him. He was mistaken for Fred Thompson hundreds of times in his life - especially after a movie with Thompson came out.

Fred Thompson is also responsible for one of my favorite movie quotes of all time. From the Hunt for Red October:

I always thought Thompson looked like the older brother of former UT coach Phil Fulmer. They had similar voices as well.

Loved Phil in Hunt for Red October, Days of Thunder and Die Hard 2. He was great at playing the authority figure.

I was a toddler when those hearings were going on. I was a big fan of his movies and studied history as an undergrad. I saw many video clips of those hearings and Thompson stood out as the guy with the pipe.
