Or we beat Houston and have to play Temple twice.

Before the season, I would have been very happy to go 8-4 this season, given the fact that we were losing 8 starters on defense. Now, we sit here with 8 wins in our pocket and a chance (slim, but still a chance) to make the 4 team playoff for the National Championship.

"It was the best of times....".

Coach Fuente, the staff, and our players are writing history as we watch.

There is probably a predictions thread that can be bumped from last summer, but that can get a certain poster's panties in a wad.

I was thinking 8-4 overall. 6-2 or 5-3 so far.

i was thinking 7 pr 8 wins, following up a 10 win season with a winning record at all would have been. a good statement for our program, if we are able to win the conference back to back that is a near miracle..

I said any less than 8 wins would be kind of a let down, that we'd probably get 8 or 9 wins, with an outside shot at 10.

At this point I think 10 wins is probably as bad as we finish.

I'll be honest- I thought that we would be more well-rounded than last year, but that our losses on defense and a tougher schedule would lead to a worse W-L record. Which after a 10 win season wasn't exactly going out on a limb. Happy as a calm to have been wrong.

12-0 and a spot in the playoffs is not out of the realm of possibility.

That said, 8-4 is still possible as well.

We have a bullseye on our back and will be everyone's marquee win from here on out. Next 3 games will determine if we are a good team or a great team. I'm praying for greatness.

with the questions we had on defense, I thought we would lose 1 of the 2 early games @ BGSU and Cincy, then lose to Mississippi then run clean until going to Houston. I pegged us with 3 regular season losses but making the AAC champ game.

Does anyone still think we loose one of the next 4 games?

I can see it happening, and would be ecstatic for a 11-1 regular season.

We may very well be underdogs our last two on the road. I had 7-8 like many others.

I know things have changed now that we're 8-0, but if we finish 2-2 down the stretch we should be happy as heck as a fan base...

That being said, I want to see Memphis win out and make the committee make a tough decision.

RE: 8-0 . What were your expectations for this football season?
Our chance of going 13-0 is about 10%.... which is 1000000000000x better than 117 other teams!

We have a 60 % chance at beating Navy, followed by 2 tossup games on the road. Then we would have another tossup against Temple , a team we beat a couple of weeks earlier. Thats what it would take to be undefeated. ..

I said before the season that anything worse than 8-4 was an underachievement & anything more than 11 wins an overachievement. We won't underachieve, and thinking now we can realistically go undefeated.

Even if we're favored in every game (although I think I saw that Houston would be favored to win at Houston if we played them today), the cumulative odds are going to be like an 80 to 85 percent chance we lose at least one of the next three games.

I can see us losing all three games. Any of our next three opponents are perfectly capable of beating us.

Things probably won't get that dire, though. Probably the worst is that we split the last four games, and we go from media darling to remember when afterthought. Which is still way better than two years ago.

RE: 8-0 . What were your expectations for this football season?
Better than expected.

The Bowling Green and Cincy games were up for grabs. Came down to a single play. We won both so we are one game up in terms of things breaking even.

But, even if we had split those games, we would have been 7-1... Still better than would have been expected.

No single game was surprising. But the cumulative still is. Even when better than your opponent, you usually throw in a stinker....and to date, we have not.

I predicted 9-3 regular season. That would be a disaster at this point
