Although I do not gamble NIU is a good bet at these odds.
This game is the second biggest game of the year for NIU fans after the rare opportunity against defending National FB champions and current #1 Ohio State.

Many NIU FB fans see Toledo as a top tier B1G team and might prefer a victory against Toledo over NU or even the lowly B1G school down south.(that refuses to schedule matches against us). Who cares about the B1G school down south when NIU has Toledo. A worthy ranked team with a good win against an SEC school and a perfect record so far this season.

I actually think NIU is being given some good respect with this 7.5 line from the betting community, from a pure statistical standpoint if you were throwing the betting portion of it aside, Toledo should be closer to a 10 point favorite. The line seems to have leveled off somewhat , opened at 7, jumped to 8, and now back down to 7.5

NIU is a great bet because:
1) NIU has arguably done as well against Toledo in the Glass Bowl versus at home since 2005.
2) NIU has won 5 straight games against Toledo.
3) NIU sees Toledo as its arch rival.
4) NIU wants payback for 2003 and 2004 Toledo losses, as well as no Bowl game in 2005.
5) Toledo is ranked and often performs badly when ranked.
6) NIU lost by only 7 points to #1 ranked Ohio State.
7) NIU are current MAC Champions.
8) A 6th successive trip to Detroit is on the line.
9) Atonement for BU loss.
10) Atonement for the Turnover fiasco against CMU in the rain.

You are awesome sterlingman, but I think you are stretching a bit here. I don't see the motivation of payback when in the past 6 years you have dominated an opponent like NIU has done to Toledo

Thanks MD. One has only to look at 7's brilliant ,"Toledo Oral history thread" to be reminded of those very painful memories back in 2003,2004 and 2005, not to mention close losses to Toledo at home and that blocked field goal at the Glass Bowl.
The question remains how many fans on this board grew up during the last incredible FIVE years.
Six years ago in 2009 we lost 19-20 to Toledo in the Glass Bowl with a blocked conversion.

I think that may resonate with fans but I am not sure is players would really care about a history that pre dates them

I think that the players will be told of the importance of this game.
This game is worth more than another Bone!
The last time we beat a ranked team on National Television during the season schedule was in 2003.
This is Ohio State vs NIU round 2 except that Toledo is not nearly as good as Ohio State.

Oddsmakers don't lose. Their goal is to take equal action on both sides so they're guaranteed a profit from the juice on the losing side.

I agree. This may still be a good bet for NIU fans.

That is why you must bet $110 to win $100. The line moves when you have too much money on one team. The bookies always wins.

RE: -7 Opening Line
Picking against Toledo would not be smart given their record ATS. Lines have been to low on us all year.

It's a game most people should stay away from given past history, and Toledo being rather unproved....with NIU proven to have 2 losses they could have won.
