What odds do you put on the chances that Foster succeeds him?

It'll be real interesting to see how this plays out. Will nepotism rule? Will Sarkasian type rumors hurt Foster? Can they attract a top flite P5 coordinator or a fast track G5 stud?

In any case, I have always thought Beamer was a class act and am glad he's stepping down before things got too ugly ( in terms of wins/losses).

Yeah, Shane is a good guy and a solid coach, but I don't think he will be the next coach at Tech. I think they'll go outside the program to try to pump up the excitement.

I would take a hard look at Tommy Tuberville.

RE: Beamer retiring
I think Shane's a good coach but they aren't going to hire him and they aren't going to hire Foster.

Two names I saw on twitter are Rich Rodriguez (wants it badly) and Dan Mullen. I'm guessing Mullen because he knows he can't win in the SEC at Mississippi State in the same division as Alabama, Auburn, and LSU.

I could see Chad Morris being interested for sure. UVa will probably be open in a month. Will be interesting (and funny) at the difference in the candidates for the two schools. UVa better hope Georgia fires Mark Richt. He's about the best they can hope for, IMO.

I agree with Richt mention and I actually think he could do well at UVa.

RE: Beamer retiring
Rich Rod's contract is apparently backloaded at Arizona, so even if he wants the job it seems like he would have to give up a lot of money in order to take it. I have no clue what is going to happen but Rich Rod as coach and Foster staying as D coordinator seems like a fairly ideal scenario. No idea if Rich Rod wants this job or if he wants Foster as D Coordinator.

Beamer retiring
Now is this a retirement or "retirement" for Frank Beamer?

No way I see Foster staying if passed over for HC. I don't see no way he would want to stay and work for another HC if they would even want him. A new HC is gonna want his staff.

It'll be interesting to see who VT gets as their coach. Tech fans tend to have an over inflated view of themselves and where they stand in the hierarchy of college football. How good of a coach they're able to hire will tell a lot.

RE: Beamer retiring
He thought enough of Tuberville to hire him at Cincinnati, He may well lure him to VA Tech. He has done a good job at UC. Tuberville put together one of the all time great teams at Auburn. Went undefeated and got screwed out of the National Championship in the old crony system.

I would say the latter.

RE: Beamer retiring
At least he retired before we had a ugly power struggle like with Bobby Bowden or other situations where guys hang around way too long. Yeah hes been average lately and its time for a new coach but Beamer probably could have made this ugly if wanted to stay for a bit longer.

This may open up some scheduling opportunities with Va. Tech. We already have the connection with Babcock and now Beamer is leaving so the next coach won't have the sting of 21-16 in his memory.

If I recall correctly VT's OOC is full through like 2020-2821 or something crazy like that. I would love to see another game but not sure it will happen in the next 6 years.

I've heard of planning ahead, but that's a little overboard 04-cheers
