Creighton and EMU looking at a MUST Win against Miami
One of these schools will sell their recruits that their respective programs are moving forward and better things are in store for them.

The losing team will have a much harder sell to their recruits that progress is being made and that their scheme will lead to better things.

This is a Must win for Creighton! I am not buying that we do not have the talent....coach the players up and find a way to win!!!

Not a must win, sorry. It doesn't mean a thing. It will be difficult to recruit regardless, just like it always is for EMU.

However, it would be nice to win, if nothing else for the sanity of the parents of the players.

Correct on both counts.

The recruiting pitch is the same with 1 win or 2 wins. We need immediate help and you can possibly play right away.

We're in it for the long haul. Next year we'll see continued improvement, especially on defense.

I agree with E Tough.

JUCO defenders will come to EMU to play immediately and try to make a difference.

The argument is pretty simply: We are building a nice offense, but we need to bolster our defense NOW to be a decent football team...

I don't get your points......recruiting top athletes is directionally proportion to the success of your program. Certainly we can get bodies to accept free room, board and tuition; however, if you want "quality" athletes we need to demonstrate our program is moving in the right direction. If Creighton keeps losing, we won't get quality recruits period.

Miami's leading rusher only has 290 yards on the season. Their defense gives up 35.7 per game (108th). If we can score 40+ we could win this.

A win against Miami will do nothing to sway the decision of recruits. Beating Miami would be good but would really do nothing to prove how good our program is or that recruits absolutely must come to EMU. Two things will do that: 1. Coach Creighton convincing the recruit that he has turned other programs around and is doing so at EMU (offensive statistics) and, 2. that the quality recruit has a chance to start right away and contribute to turning the program around.

Miami is not a must win because they are pretty much the mirror image of EMU. It's probably going to be a shoot out.

But a win against Miami AND UMass would mean we would finish the season with 3 wins all against FBS programs and shut up some of the critics on this board. That alone should motivation for the players and coaches who read this board.

RE: Creighton and EMU looking at a MUST Win against Miami
Take this for what it's worth..

As a teacher, I am expected on a daily basis to be doing my best to motivate students to learn math. I'm encouraging kids to persevere and work through difficult problems and to do the work to help prepare them for future endeavors. I can speak this until I'm blue in the face and can say this to my students over and over but the ownace is on them to ultimately take it serious and do it themselves. Generally the turning point with a student when they finally have that "ah-ha" moment where they realize that their hard work is actually paying off, where they see that all of those things we as teachers have been talking about is true.

That's the feeling I have with this year's team as well. I'm definitely seeing this year's group of kids fighting to the very end despite the fact that it seems like before these last several games that EMU has started with a 21-0 deficit before even playing one play. That is encouraging versus some games under previous coaching staffs where they just played out the string. These players need to see that their hard work is actually paying off in the result of wins. I honestly feel that if they can come out and manage a win against Miami, they'll have a great shot at winning vs UMass at home which would get them to 3 wins(which is where I honestly thought they were going to be at this year). Then perhaps you have an inspired effort against CMU and maybe this team ends up with a 3 game winning streak at the end of the year. This team seems to perform well when they have some confidence (see Wyoming game, then the first half against Ball State) and seems to perform admirably when they are actually in the game.

In fairness too, EMU for the first time in several weeks is going to be playing against a team that they are clearly over matched against. The biggest thing is the fact that those games were blow outs but that was because our team on offense and defense made a lot of mistakes that made the score much worse than it should have been. Against WMU, you cannot have 4 turnovers and make the poor decisions that happened on offense and expect to be close in that game. You cannot have the penalties. I also think that our defense needs a major overhaul and I'm not blind to that as well.

In terms of recruiting, etc... yeah this game isn't a must win. However, for the current group of players on this team, a win could do wonders for the remainder of this season and could potentially give us a jump for the start of next season.

I'll be in Oxford with my wife on Saturday, and I'm hoping that the Eagles play an inspired game against a team that's struggling as much as they are.

Go Green!

Great post Crumb. Winning 2 of 3 to end the season would definitely be a psychological boost to the players, staff, and fans heading into the off season.

Simply cut out the turnovers, and work Bell into the game plan for 10-15 plays, and we should have a legitimate chance to beat Miami & UMass, and make Central a competitive contest.

We don't. But that's the only possible benefit of these last few games.

I agree with y'all saying that beating Miami and UMASS would be a great way to end the season. It absolutely would be! However, the premise of this thread is that Miami is a must win for this program. I would say, in terms of in-state recruits, that Toledo, WMU or CMU were/are must win games because in-state football players will be deciding where to commit mostly among those schools. Miami is not a must win. It would be nice to win and I think we will win but it isn't a must win.

EMU v Miami (OH) is like a tallest midget contest. What does it really mean, win or lose?

Believe me, this is a "Must Win" for Creighton to help secure an "average" MAC Recruiting class. For those of you who say it is not, give no arguments and offer your opinion only.

My argument is not only to have a small ray of credibility for our recruits but you have to crawl before you walk or run. If we finish 1-11, then Creighton's coaching would be questioned along with his vision for moving EMU forward.

This is a very critical game and I say its a Must Win situation for EMU football!!!

You've been wrong about so many things and three exclamation points don't make your argument any more valid. You are delusional to think a win against Miami will confirm Coach Creighton's vision for this program. Rather, the eventual remaining losses will highlight the lack of talent that no coach can overcome...as has been discussed ad nauseum.

Multiple people have given you very specific arguments and debunked your 'credibility' theory directly. AGAIN......kids are going to choose EMU because they can play early, they want to be a part of turning around the program, they believe what Creighton is selling (via his words and passion). He is certainly not selling 1 extra win.

Juco guys especially, don't really care about anything except the opportunity to play right away.
