OT: Those Crazy ACC Officials
Entire Duke-Miami officiating crew suspended for 2 weeks for missing 4 calls on the final game-winning kickoff return.

Wonder if any of them are from the former Big East crew who couldn't tell if an extra point is good or not.

Big difference in the conference reactions-----in the case of the Big East, the conference ultimately had to admit it was a bad call because the video evidence showed the entire world it was a bad call. But that was OK because it ensured that one of their conference teams was not upset by a team from a "lesser" conference which would have been even more embarrassing to them than admitting to a bad call.

On the other hand, the refs in the Duke/Miami game cause a RANKED ACC team be knocked out of the top 25 much to the detriment of the conference, so this is truly a big deal to them.

I'm not convinced that the guy's knee was indisputably down, but if I'm watching a game, and I have to sit through 24 penalties on one team, as a neutral fan, I want these guys suspended.

Refs tend to swallow their whistles in Hail Mary passes where endzone scrums for the ball would be pass interference in normal, non-exciting cases.

Wonder if the same happens here in these game-ending lateral fests.

Not sure why it happens, unless refs subconsciously don't want to be spoilers in game deciding highlight reel plays. I dunno.

Watching that clip, it felt like some of the Duke players were just standing around as the ball was being passed around like a hot potato, as if they were thinking "heh, yeah, nice try Miami, this one's over, good night." Missed penalties or not, I think a few players assumed they had the W and weren't making much effort until one guy broke free down the sideline.

Yeah that's what I was thinkin' too, a handful of times during that last play, Duke players looked like they had a play, but they let up, and the play continued. Like it was all supposed to happen that way.

RE: OT: Those Crazy ACC Officials
The linesman was looking directly at the ball carrier who is in question of being down by contact. The freeze frame photo with the article appears to show the ball out of his hands while there may be space between his knee and the ground. Not the evidence to overturn the call.

The biggest problem is that the last six seconds turned into more of a basketball turned keep away game throwing official positioning out the window.
