No chance. Navy simply doesn't have the athletes on defense to hang with the Memphis offense for four quarters.

We're going to have to play perfect for sure, but the whole "more athletic" thing is played out. The team knows they're not as athletic...that's why they have to execute.

If Navy controls the ball and executes?...they can beat anyone..anytime. Memphis has to stop their offense. The rest will take care of itself.

Memphis has to stop their offense one more time than Navy stops Memphis'.

I could be wrong but I don't think Navy's secondary has what it takes to give their defensive front line the cover sacks it will need.

And therein lies the problem for the Middies. I fully expect Navy to move the ball and score. I just can't see then stopping Lynch and co.

RE: Much As I Don't Want them too Memphis Will Fall to Navy
A few interesting things about this matchup--

1) Memphis has been pretty decent against the run this season. It's the passing game where we've struggled defensively. In this aspect, the matchup looks favorable to minimize Memphis's biggest weakness.

2) However, Memphis has really struggled with penalties, whereas Navy is among the most disciplined teams in the country minimizing penalties. Navy could exploit this against Memphis.

3) Defending Navy's triple option requires individual discipline from individual players, time and again, and consistent focus. Memphis has been pretty good, but not elite, in this regard. We will see.

4) Memphis has home field advantage, obviously.

5) Memphis tends to start slow. This favors Navy. If Memphis could break with form and get an early lead, it would be a major advantage as Navy doesn't tend to like playing from behind as well. If things go as they usually do, however, it will be a dogfight.

Should be an interesting game. I just hope we escape with a W and no injuries.

I expect the Navy game to be tough, hard-fought and close to the end. As an old-timer who witnessed nearly two decades in which triple option football predominated, I have a deep respect for what such offenses can do and in these days most defenses don't see it more than once a year.

Memphis played very sloppy against Tulane. A lot of dropped passes and dumb penalties. Maybe a little too impressed by their news stories and ranking. Lynch was off in the first half as well, which I have not seen this year. I think they will wake back up and play well against a solid Navy team. There will be a big crowd at the Liberty Bowl as well.

It should be interesting. You can simulate the triple option in practice but it's different seeing it in person. Getting a lead would be helpful for the Tigers. Forcing Navy into 3rd and long situations will also be helpful. I don't see Navy being able to stop our offense except by controlling possessions.

The Memphis Navy game will be very close. Navy is good enough to beat Memphis. They really are. They eat up clock and keep your offense off the field. Memphis won't be able to stop Navy's rushing attack so they'll have to outscore them with the limited attempts they do get. USF has played both team and I did not see Memphis being much better than Navy. It's a misnomer that Navy doesn't have athletes. Reynolds is an elite athlete and all of Navy's fullbacks weigh 250 pounds and can run. If Memphis wins by a touchdown they will have had a successful day.

I'm interested to see the clash of styles. I expect a very close game, and therefore think it will come down to whoever can be more composed and disciplined in the clutch.

Navy 30
Memphis 28

i actually dont think it will be close, but think either can win

if one can gain a 2 score lead they will separate, navy isnt built to catch up but are built to kill time

31-17 navy type game, with navy dominating the time of possession...or 43-21 memphis

RE: Much As I Don't Want them too Memphis Will Fall to Navy
I expect it will be a highlight filled game and Memphis will have their hands full with Reynolds. That said, Memphis is very skilled at creating time consuming drives and only one team has kept them from scoring less than 37 points in a game this season. Lastly, if Memphis can contain the run and force Reynolds to throw Navy will have some problems.
It's entirely possible that Navy beats Memphis. That said, so far folks on here have also claimed we were to going to lose to Bowling Green, Cincinnati, South Florida, Ole Miss, and Tulsa. We're still standing.

Is Navy really that far behind in athleticism, especially this year? From the games I have watched I haven't really seen any gap at all except maybe for the Notre Dame game, but what do you expect?
