Memphis opens as 8.5 favorite. Are the folks in Vegas full of it too?
You don't understand how that works. All Vegas is trying to do is keep the money even on both sides, so they don't take a bath. And I guarantee you that NONE of those bettors KNOW Memphis is going to win. They just THINK they are, by whatever the spread is.
Odds are, Memphis SHOULD win, but that's not the same as actually KNOWING. That's why they play the games.
See how that works?
What does he not understand? What better way is there to make sure you get equal amounts of money on each side, than to accurately project the spread?
You're completely missing the point. I said nobody really KNOWS who will win. Everybody is guessing, so if somebody says "Memphis will beat Houston," or "Houston will beat Memphis," they are full of it. Period.
Vegas books have a better IDEA than anybody else, but they don't KNOW who will win, either. More clear?

Sure about that?
Pretty obvious that Memphis doesn't have the athletes on defense to hang with navy's offense for four quarters (or even one quarter).

I'm not trying to say Memphis will stop them at ease but our rush D is top 25 in the NCAA.
Some of that was because opponents had to give up the run and mostly pass after Memphis Offense was putting up video game numbers and points.
Goal for any defense is that hopefully your offense can build a lead...which helps make opposing offenses much more one dimensional...usually forcing them to pass to come from behind.

Navy is tough to beat if you fall behind. You must jump on them early and take a big lead to take them away from that running game. Same could happen to Houston if they don't score a lot early

You have to get up on them by at least 2 scores early and be efficient offensively to beat them when your defense can't contain them. People tend to vastly underrate their defense and ascribe all their success to the option. Fact is they play very good D too.
