I remember Jeff Long saying something about Clemson having 4 wins against teams with winning records. I'm guessing that would App St, ND, MIAMI, NC STATE...the last 2 being ACC teams. So yes ACC wins did matter.

You do realize NC State beat FOUR Sun Belt teams.

Top 25 tells you something, but only something. If you rank out to 10 you get a different story. If you rank out to 40, again you get a different picture. The ACC generally has a lot of teams not quite top 25 good, but in the next tier.

I do, but Jeff Long and the committee didn't seem to care.

The Sun Belt had 4 shots at a mediocre NC State and still cant beat a P5 team. But Clemson gets credit for beating App State...who pretty much only plays Sun Belt teams as well.

Who knew the Committee would factor in the Sun Belt so much...when the conference is easily the worst in college football.

Well to be fair, it was really only 2 Sun Belt teams. Eastern Ky is FCS and Old Dominion is Conference USA.

I am in the group that actually gives the AAC a hell of a lot of credit this season. I think it is fantastic.

That said, credit is reactive not proactive. If they do this again then they will continue to make moves both in the polls and in the mind's of voters.

Good job AAC!

It's all a guess based on an arbitrary formula, with not enough games to go by.

NIU's victory over Toledo clears the path for Memphis/Houston/Temple to grab the last spot in the New Year's 6. That's the glass ceiling for the AAC. The CFP 4 is beyond their reach.

Which tells us nothing about the conference. E.g., in 1990, UNLV was the best college basketball team, but the conference they came from, the Big West, was awful.

Please disinclude NMSU from that awful comment. We finished the season in the ap top 25 and a tournament team that year not to mention got as high as 11 in the polls. But I agree the rest of the conference was awful. Unless you are talking about the 89-90 season than the Big West had 3 schools in UNLV, NMSU and UCSB. UNLV was the number 2 seed in the Big West tourney that year!

You're right...Memphis winning games over 3 top 25 teams and Navy in the last month won't move them much.

1) Toledo was never in any of the AAC's way

2) Memphis can definitely make the CFP

RE: American Conference strength per CFP Committee
If Memphis wins out I think they make the CFP and deserve to. Many of the teams ahead of them will eliminate each other and Memphis has as tough of a remaining schedule as most any other team. With that said, winning out will be very difficult. I hope they do it.
