What message would it send for us to not win the first round game again this year? This year's team and fans aren't worthy? We have a group who buys ugly helmets and uniforms at the drop of a hat. they will need to back the bid.
We will go in strong. Or else, why bother. We are ESPN GAME DAY worthy, we are host team playoff worthy. Move forward, not backward.
Other fans at Fcs schools are looking at our excessively high Fcs athletic budget and history of underbidding prior to last year and just laugh.
Hell, I laugh right along with them. It's like we don't have a clue how to bid, how to negotiate, and don't know how to plan. Clearly we have done something right, but it defies all that is taught over in our Business School.
No, I'm not talking about brick-and-morter, so please don't go there.

All these "Doom and Gloom" threads are entertaining. Odds they lose the last 2 games are slim to none.

I think most believe we will finish 9-2 or 8-3, but that's a far cry from where everyone thought we would be a couple weeks ago, which is why folks are starting to panic. The hype that led up to and during espn Gameday has also left many a little deflated knowing that we weren't able to capitalize on that momentum.
I agree, the season is far from over, but the magical season many felt we were having no longer exists, as we just lost to two in state conference foes where our D got completely shredded in both outings. Hard to remain too optimistic when your D gets shown up the way it has the past two weeks.

to be completely honest, that "magical national championship run" was gone when vad left the UR game injured. It was already 50/50 AT BEST given the consistently crappy performance by our defense. 50% chance was being generous.

RE: 7-4
I'm glad some of you think that 7-4 is completely out of the question, and I hope you are correct. However, our defense can't stop a leaky faucet and our special teams are prone to huge, game-changing mistakes. It may be unlikely that we go 7-4, but it's certainly possible. We've scored a combined 92 points the last two weeks and are 0-2, what are the odds of that happening?
That being said, if we go 7-4, I'm not as confident as most of you seem to be that we will get in the playoffs. Not all 7-4's are created equal. 7-4 having WON your last four games may be a lot more appealing than 7-4 having LOST your last four games. Again, quite possible I'm wrong, but just wanted to put it out there for discussion sake.

If the Dukes don't win these last two games they don't belong in the playoffs.

RE: 7-4
JMU is significantly better than Delaware or Villanova. You guys will go 9-2, host a playoff game and then who knows? I do agree about Vad though. Schor did very well Saturday, but he is no Vad. The defense has a good chance in the next two games too since both opponents lack offensive balance. We still remember 2004 and those Dukes rebounded very well. Still an outside chance if both the Tribe and JMU run the table that the CAA sends only 3 to the playoffs but they are all seeded.
If but some chance JMU goes 7-4, you will still get in. BDKJMU has convinced me of that. Someone with 6 wins is probably getting in.

I agree with Potomac, the NC fantasy is such a long shot even with the best player in FCS (Nova lost in quarters last year?) that it was really just purple tinted glasses everyone had on. Also I think most realistically thought we would drop 1 to W&M or UR so a 9-2 finish is not a "far cry" from 10-1. We lost to two teams that will be in the top 10 at the end of the season by a total of 14 points. Heck, the outcome at W&M came down to a PAT and a bad call but we have the equivalent of FIRE MM threads this week.
Newbill - Name your realistic odds on the 7-4 outcome, I'll pay them, IT IS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN.

“You're never as good as everyone tells you when you win, and you're never as bad as they say when you lose.”
We're a few plays/calls away from being undefeated. We're 7-2 heading into the bye, which I would have taken back in August.
The team will heal and rest this week, and have a bad taste in their mouth when they get back to work. 9-2 is probable, imo. That gets us into the playoff, though probably not with a seed.

7-4
This team is going to finish the regular season with a record very similar to what many predicted at the start of the season.
The journey has been a little different, but the outcome was expected.
We are who we thought we were

RE: 7-4
If the team finishes 9-2 I will take that every day and twice on Saturday.
Most people were expected 8-3 or 9-2 to start the season so we seem to be about where most predicted.
That being said the last two weeks have left a sour taste in many fans mouth. Bye is coming at a good time.
Still feel the team will finish 9-2.
Go Dukes!!
