RE: UCF game thread
I really think it's an injury/protection thing. After one of his runs Saturday (and I believe his only carry of that series) Boone started tapping the top of his head furiously as he came towards the sideline (universal sign for I need a replacement). By the time he got to the sideline he was limping and he was taken over to the cart... it wasn't his ankle but knee they were looking at. I don't believe he injured it but maybe a tweak.

Yep, we've got an overall great offense and running game with 3 quality RBs who are all produdctive with complementary skill sets. This whole issue is a complaint in search of a problem. Par for the course around here...

Agree totally.

I'll just leave this here.

I'm guessing Boone has to be incredibly frustrated. Everyone around us in the stadium is asking why Boone isn't getting more carries. I bet he is too.

Yeah, let's pound the ball with Boone in a blowout win so he can re-aggravate or worsen his injury going into the Houston game01-wingedeagle

Guessing lots of people don't listen to Dan, Jim Kelly Jr and Tony Pike when they watch the game.

Hard to do that when actually at the game. What did they say?

Radio/Android phone ear buds. At halftime coaching staff decided to play dam near the entire roster if possible. Wanted to get walk ons in there, see if guys should get scholly, which is why Niehaus was playing center in place of Bond.

I don't think anyone would really argue that was the wrong decision. Up 35-0 and UCF had put up zero fight. I don't think anyone was arguing Boone should've been in there pounding out runs with the 2nd and 3rd stringers, only questioning why he's not getting more carries in general given the huge disparity in his numbers vs. the other RBs. He seems to get in the game about every 3rd offensive possession. No problem with Banschbach getting in the second half and getting carries as the freshman scholarship RBs are red-shirting. Although the comment is curious about playing the entire roster as we continued to play many of the starters the whole 3rd quarter (Kiel played the whole 3rd including the final drive of the quarter where we kicked the FG to go up 52-0).

I was surprised to see Kiel out there behind a 2nd and 3rd string line.

I was wondering if Moore was injured a bit, so I figured Gunner would just hand off. Then he starting throwing again and I really couldn't figure it out.

Don't think anyone has said the Bearcat coaches shouldn't use Hosey or Tion. The point is when you have a running back who has been so clearly the best running back, he should get more than a few carries a game. I think Boone should be getting at least half the carries. He's just too good to be relegated to an afterthought on this team.

And I don't think I alleged that anyone said that. The point is that multiple posters have highlighted many of the reasons for Boone not getting more carries so far this season: his injury and possible durability issues possibly tied to his size, his relative difficulties in pass blocking which also impacts offensive predictability, the productivity and varied skills of Green and Hosey (possibly including leadership issues), running game variety with possible synergy (physically beat up tacklers are usually slower and tired tacklers usually aren't as physical), the desirability of always having fresh legs at his position and most recently a blowout win. WRT to volume, we've had record setting QB and WR play this year. It's not like Boone is our only productive back - all 3 of them have done a very nice job as used in combination. I'd be extremely surprised if Boone's %age of carries don't go up if remains productive and most importantly healthy. We simply don't have a RB problem worthy to complain about.

Gunner Kiel named AAC Offensive player of the week (and didn't even play the entire game)

Also ESPN named hima "Primetime Performer"

Dan Hoard called that spot on in the second quarter Saturday.

His receivers helped him out a lot. Particularly that long ball to Moore he had to make an incredible adjustment to catch.

Holton was wide open on his TD and Kiel had no pressure but Holton still had to slow down for the ball...

From his first spring game onward I've been saying he doesn't have a very strong arm on the deep ball...unfortunately that hasn't changed. He's making a habit of drastically underthrowing wide open receivers in the deep third.

I agree with your sentiment. However, you have to admit that you or I could have probably gone 14-15 against that back end.

I have made this observation over the past few years and i will make it again:

ECU, Houston, Memphis and Temple fans: we are just as good as Alabana

UC fans: meh, we are not very good. We are more like Troy State.o

We strive to be better then Alabama. If we aren't better, we play like Troy State. There is no in between.

Im not complaining. Im just making an observation. A better defense is going to make Kiel pay for underthrown and forced balls.

Im ecstatic he went 15 for 15, its got both him and UC some good pub over the week. Im just looking at it a little bit deeper in anticipation of the pretty good defense we are facing tomorrow. A defense that is the best in the nation in capitalizing on mistakes.
