You're either saying you don't think you can make 1 yard, or you don't think you can get a punt off, or you have less confidence in your ability to get 25 yards WITH THE BALL than you do in their ability to get the ball first, and THEN get 25. Maybe we have no faith in our kickers?
There are ways to 'control' the clock without stopping it.

Oh, I think you pick up the pace considerably once you get out to the 40. If you pick up the first down quickly, there's still time to get in position for a long FG, which was probably as much as you were ever going to do. And you've pretty much taken the clock down to the point where their only chances of scoring would rest with a turnover or a blocked punt, both of which are considerably less likely than our picking up third and 1. At that point, we're definitely in a situation where the odds favor upping the tempo and going for it. Once their likelihood of scoring is virtually nil, pull out all stops to try to get something on our side of the board.

I don't recall whether the runs that started the possession were runs that had a legitimate chance of breaking, or were simply run out the clock runs that happened to gain yardage because they were so pass-conscious. As I have said, my approach would have been to call runs that had a chance to break or passes that had virtually 100% completion rate, try to run it out to midfield by the 30 second mark, and then take my shots downfield from there. 30 seconds from the 50 is time enough to do some serious damage, particularly since you can stop the clock three times so you have the whole field available to you.

Again, David did not handle it the way I would have handled it, but that's not to say that his approach deserves the vitriol that it has gotten here. It's not my preferred strategy, but it's not that bad a strategy.

29k and some change to be exact. Of course, a good chunk of the city was flooded including the underpass on Cullen. The Cincy game already has 30k sold and should be a sellout or near sellout this weekend. Next week's Memphis game already has 31k sold and the Navy game in 3 weeks already has almost 30k sold.

Of course, talk smack while your school draws 4-5k (we all know those official numbers are lies 98% of the time)

Not a bad idea it might help our attendance. No one is coming out to the games anymore

I'm just going through some more of the game thread this afternoon and I laughed pretty good at that one, so thanks, InterestedX, I needed some humor today. Then again, I agree you are probably right as well.

I keep forgetting your enrollment and alumni numbers are the same as Rice's, so 30K is great!(/s) Doesn't sound like Mensa thinks it is so great.
