Busloads of EMU fans
For those that only know EMU for its current attendance issues, here is a great read from former EMU SID Jim Streeter recalling three "convoy" games in the mid- and late-80s that had 15-20 busloads of EMU fans following the Hurons on the road.

It's all about winning. Win and the fans will be there. Lose for 20 straight years? Well, we know the answer to that equation.

I'm sure that's most of it but I think attendance would still be down, based on the experience of other teams still doing well (or so-so) who have seen their attendance decline.

Nice story about the glory days of the EMU HURONS. As I am sure HURONDave certainly remembers, about four years later EMU (unlike CMU) succumbed to political correctness pressure and dropped the Huron name in favor of a generically bland "Eagles" moniker and with the exception of a couple of "close but no cigar" seasons, EMU football has pretty much been in the toilet every year since then.

There is a photo of the Glass Bowl out there, where 2-3 corner sections are full of EMU green. Not sure if it was during the Charlie Batch days or prior too that, but it was pretty impressive.

If we are talking of the photo with EMU in white with a green stripe that would be 1987.

Thought it was later than that, i believe the Glass Bowl had been renovated , thus the enclosed corners as opposed to grass, making it 91 or later, but I could be mistaken.

That even trying to sell beer at a game will make you LOSE money too. :)

I like the picture in the link. They all still wear the same clothes at EMU! Some things never change... except winning % in football. :)

RE: Busloads of EMU fans
I remember that 1987 Raisin Bowl win by Eastern very well...I had attended the 1986 Cal Bowl at which my then Redskins got creamed by San Jose State, 37-7. Actually was a good, competitive game right up to halftime...we were down 10-7 with the ball at midfield with less than 2 minutes to go in the haf and went for a 4th and 2 and didn't make it...San Jose (who had a very good QB who's name I cannot recall), took them right down the field to score a TD at end of half to go up 17-7, and you could feel the steam come out of the Miami team.

The year before Brian McClure and BG got walloped in the Cal Bowl, something like 50-7 so EMU's win was big for the conference to regain some credibility...it was a great game as well!
