Jean-vest guy, IMO, made that era. He was the best hype man I've seen in the 20 years I've been following ODU. He brought hoards of friends with him and there literally was a competition amongst the students to get the best seats--resulting in about 100 of them showing up an hour or so before the game. From an organizational standpoint, I don't think things have changed significantly since then, though.

The atmosphere from 2005-10 and the last 4 years under JJ is night and day different for a multitude of reasons as others have mentioned early.

Anyone who cannot even admit this simple fact cannot ever be taken seriously again. It's night and day different even if the overall attendance numbers might still be similar.

The students can go to the games for free though. All those other things cost money. Some of them quite a lot.

There is a large gap between thinking he's the worst coach of all time and thinking he's a great coach. Most, I'm sure, put him somewhere in between that. But, the posts on here make it seem like it is one of the other.

This is a big year for him, I'm sure. Think a rough year would put him on the hot seat. (overall, not just the fans that post here)

I would feel a lot better with Talley and McClinton, but I am patient enough to see what we have with the Hueitt/Green/Godwin. I think we will be better than people think.

If the young guys grow up fast, and Kah gets it together, (and we stay healthy without anyone else being suspended) we could be really good.

However, the only measure of success this year is an NCAA Tournament bid. Anything short of that is a failure.

Taylor went to the NCAAs 4 times (and the 3 auto bid teams would have been at large selections) and developed the best team to put on the uniform. It really isn't close. Only other coach in the modern era that fielded a single at-large quality team was Young and it was his first year with Webb remnants. So you have:

Webb - 3 appearances, no wins, no at large teams
Young - 1 appearance, 1 win, 1 at large team
Purnell - 1 appearance, no wins, no at large teams
Capel - 2 appearances, 1 win, no at large teams

My bad I didn't see your parenthetical comment. I was looking at your table.

But there is no way to prove we'd have gotten at large births. Especially the first one. At that time the CAA had never gotten an at-large. We may have been the first, but that is very subjective.

I think titles and tournament wins should be weighted higher than overall win %. At the end of the day the banner and exposure is what matters the most.
