PJ Fleck
Matt Campbell
Dino Babers
Rod Carey
I think PJ and Campbell will be the top targets.
1. Campbell. Fielded a consistent winning team, consistently good recruiting classes, won bowl games, only thing he hasn't done is beat NIU, and subsequently won the MAC. Call it the "safe" pick. Minnesota a good scenario.
2. Carey. Won MAC West division two years in a row, won MAC title in 2014, consistently good recruiting classes, only thing he hasn't done is won a bowl game. Could make an argument for #1, but thinking about how G5 programs might look at up-and-coming coaches, AD's might think of Campbell as the "safer" pick. Indiana, his alma mater and where he played college ball, a good scenario.
3. Babers. Won MAC East division last year, good recruiting classes, high-octane offense will make him a sexy pick for someone looking to make a splash. However, down-sides including not giving a **** about defense and yet to be seen whether his offense will work against decent P5 competition (only P5 wins are against Indiana, Maryland, and Purdue, all of whom are at the bottom of the Big Ten when BG played them). Crash-and-burn potential if put in the wrong fit, i.e. bottom level P5 school without the talent to run his system, such as Purdue.
4. Fleck. Media and recruiting services darling, but results on field have not yet equaled hype generated by aforementioned institutions. Similar to Babers in that someone looking to make a splash might consider him a sexy pick to generate attention, but, also like Babers, crash-and-burn potential is high if put in the wrong situation. Illinois has been mentioned, but as we saw from Tim Beckman, it'll take more than a boat, a couple of oars, and a bat-**** crazy head coach to turn that program around.
