Sad to see one of the true good guys in the sport having to give it up while douchebags like Petrino get to keep going.

Very true.

But nobody said it was going to be fair.

Jerry Kill, sadly, has a history of seizures. I remember after the Gophers lost to New Mexico State, he had an episode on the sidelines.

May God be with him.

If healthy I think he elevates the program like he did NIU.
They are a smart team well coached had to be hard to recruit.

He walked into a good situation at NIU so he didn't elevate it as much as it appears, but he did seem to be a good coach. I'm glad he's making the right decision and retiring. With all the work and dedication and hours that being a head coach requires, I don't see any way he could take care of his health like he should for a guy already suffering bouts of seizures.

I thought Kill had another 40-50 years of 24/7 coaching left in him. At least.

That's why I felt he should have left two season ago. Maybe he can be an AD somewhere.

Funny you say that.

Guess which B1G school has an opening at AD?

I'll give you a hint: it's the school in the state right next to the state whose B1G school's previous football coach is now the AD.

Jeez. I never thought about this .... I wonder if Jerry is doing this so that he can go after the AD job....

Seems like our former fired HC Tony Levine hats in the ring for the job, he's a Gopher alum and former FB player. Maybe will have another coach this time in the B1G from our family tree. Good luck to Coach Levine on landing the job.

RE: Minnesota Coach Jerry Kills is retiring effective immediately
Had a chance last night to sit and watch part of Kill's press conference from Wednesday morning. It's 40mins long, but his statement is only the first 10 mins or (maybe less). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZZVGtqCc5fQ

If any of you like Jerry Kill or have an interest in the situation, it's well worth the 10 mins to listen to his statement. Very emotional and heartfelt. Your heart goes out for the guy.

He said that his seizures had returned, even though he had taken steps to improve his health. He had two seizures on Tuesday, and that made up his mind to quit.

Even then ... he still wanted to give it one last shot, so he went to practice on Tuesday. But he said he knew when he walked off the practice field that it wasn't the same, that a part of him had just died.

He said that his doctors were telling him that if he keeps going on this way, he could have brain damage and become mentally disabled in the future.

Meanwhile, Tracy Claeys is ready to be the head coach of this team. This season and into the future: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PpFrYfLustc

I love everything that Kill's program was about ... and it will be almost exactly the same with Claeys at the helm. They just need to hire another D position coach. Maybe they can even get someone who has worked with them in the past. If I recall, a coach that came with them from NIU to Minnesota then left for Florida. But with the changing of staff there, maybe they can get that guy back.
