Exclamation LaTech @ Rice 10/30 7PM FS1 Game Thread
5-3 LaTech will roll into Rice Stadium on Friday night 7pm to play against 4-3 Rice for an early West champ showdown. Rice has the number one rush offense in CUSA, Tech has the number one rush defense. This will be a great match-up.
This will be the biggest CUSA game of the week.

Historically, Tech and Rice have played 8 games against each other (4-4-0) with each team scoring a total of 272pts.

1L 09-18-1965 0 Houston, TX 14
2W 10-27-2001 41 Ruston, LA 38
3L 10-05-2002 20 Houston, TX 37
4L 11-29-2003 14 Ruston, LA 49
5W 11-29-2004 51 Houston, TX 14
6W 09-15-2012 56 Ruston, LA 37
7L 11-16-2013 14 Houston, TX 52
8W 11-29-2014 76 Ruston, LA 31

Will definitely a high scoring game.

How interesting, pretty cool fact about the total score being even as well. I think La Tech wins this one. Our pass defense is not very good (see Baylor and WKU games for evidence), so Driskel should be able to pass with ease. Our defensive line is also depleted from injuries. However, I will think we'll be able to run against your run defense, as we have 4+ more than capable backs. Not sure if it'll be a blowout or a close game, but I think La Tech does win.

Why not come on down for the game and make a weekend, or partial weekend, of it? You'll be welcomed. LaTech fans have traveled well to Houston in the past and have been gracious and friendly. Ditto my trips up to Ruston; quality folks up there....

Last I looked there's 50% chance of rain on Friday in Houston per weather.com. Looks like more rain on Saturday too. I'm sure Rice will take anything that could slow Driskel down.

I expect a good game until the Dawgs put they're foot down and crush the Owls spirits after halftime

I really want to but I discussed it with my wife and with three young children and a new job this year wasn't meant to be. I love Rice village and want badly to see this game in Houston but life calls. It is on my bucket list.

It is funny how these games have been blowouts going both ways recently. I love to see Rice run the option and the Rice band is always the best halftime entertainment of any game all season long. Unfortunately, having the game on Friday knocks me out as well.

I have been to Ruston twice for football games and once for baseball and echo the sentiment about the quality fans.

This is always a great game. I have never missed a home tilt, and as soon as I can get my 2 year old out of diapers, I will sell this to the Mrs. as a shopping trip with a little football sandwiched in between. The best bar I have ever been to is the Gingerman, Rice Village Texas. They had Paulaner wheat on draft that was to die for.

Optimistic, I'm 65 now so I get to ramble on with boring stories 03-old, so here goes....

It was during the Hatfield era, I think it was the year we were down 31-7 at the half and under Kyle Herm came back and (almost) won at the end, but it was my first trip to Joe Aillet Stadium and I was trying to find a parking place and lug 60 pounds of camera equipment into the stadium and find the media entrance. A few hundred yards from the stadium, I was obviously a Rice visitor and obviously struggling, and a very distinguished looking Southern gentleman of a certain age drives up in an unprepossessing American-make car. He rolls down the window and asks, "Need some help with that equipment, podnah?"

"Well, yessir, but this is where they told me to park."

"Well, let's see if we can do something about that."

The man beckons a policeman over; a brief conversation and the policeman waves me on.

"Just follow me, young man..."

So I followed the gentleman's car as he was waved into a chain-link-fenced VIP lot right underneath the press box. Pointed out a place that said "Parking by permit only" and told me, "Park there."

Then he parked, and I looked over at the curb at his spot, and it said, "Chairman, Board of Trustees."

Good folks.....

Great story and if I remember correctly we dominated the first half and controlled Rice's running game but you got back in the game in the 2nd half through the air and where an option team and almost won the game minus a blocked FG or something. We beat Boise the next week and then went on to win the WAC. 04-cheers

Best (almost) comeback I've ever seen. (That year Boise, Hawaii, and Rice all won 8 or more but did not go bowling)

That loss, and last year's game, both kept us from conference title shots.
The players don't remember 2001 like we do. Hopefully they remember 2014.

I was there.

Me too. It's going to be a tough game with some much on the line for both teams. Hopefully Tech can pull this one out on the road.

Knowing Dixon will play this week makes me feel much better this week than last week. He is just so important to our team in this stress of conference play.
